Great for use in a small business or as a specialized application server for a large corporation, the Dell PowerEdge R210 is very affordable while still offering the performance and manageability that Dell is known for. It has the smallest footprint of any of Dell’s 11th generation PowerEdge servers while still delivering a flexible, easy to manage, secure system.
The PowerEdge R210 features Intel's 3420 chipset to support several different processors including a single quad-core Xeon 3400 series processor, a single dual-core Intel Celeron CPU, a dual-core Pentium CPU, and a dual-core Core i3 500 series processor. Powering the system and components is a single non-redundant 250W 80+ Bronze rated power supply.
SATA drives are supported in the standard configuration. However, with the addition of an add-in controller the system will also support SAS and SSDs. A maximum of two 3.5-inch or 2.5-inch HDD or SSD drives are supported. The embedded PERC S100 is a software controller and supports SATA only. The PERC S300 is also software-based but uses the sas 6/ir to support sas and sata. Several other optional storage controllers are available including the PERC H800. eSATA is supported for use with external SATA technologies. The R210 also features a slimline optical disk drive.
Up to 16GB of unbuffered DDR3 memory is supported in four memory slots or a minimal configuration with just 1GB of memory. Transfer speeds are rated at either 1333MHz or 1066MHz depending on your choice of memory and processor.
There is a single PCIe x16 slot supporting cards rated under 25W for a single HD controller or NIC/LOM option. There are six USB ports total; two on the front, two on the back, and two internal.
iDRAC6 with LifeCycle controller is supported on the R210 with an option to upgrade to Express or Enterprise, with the purchase of a license key, and offers advanced management capabilities. iDRAC6 provides Administrators remote access to manage the server even when powered off. Dell OpenManage with the Dell Management Console is also supported.
The R210 is what Dell calls a value-based system. This system does not have all the bells and whistles associate with the more advanced PowerEdge servers available because it’s streamlined to give you what you need in a small server at an affordable price—without all the stuff you don’t need and don’t want to pay for. If you need an affordable server for your small business or a test server for a larger enterprise application, the R210 is an excellent choice and still offers the excellent management features for which Dell is known.
