The Lenovo ThinkStation D20 Workstation is a mid-range model equipped with dual Intel processors. It offers ECC memory, supports UDIMM and RDIMM DDR3 memory modules, and features substantial storage.
Released in 2011, the Lenovo ThinkStation D20 workstation is still a powerful performer with support for up to two dual and quad-core Xeon processors. The D20 is designed to tackle demanding graphic and computationally intensive applications that require more resilience and performance than a standard PC. It features a matt black case with an industrial design and an integrated handle for easy mobility. The case also features a locking side panel to secure your storage devices. It is ISV certified to run with industry leading software partners.
Several quad- and six-core Xeon E2-5600 or X5600 processors with turbo boost are supported for additional performance during peak processing. High-end Quadro graphics cards from Nvidia are also supported.
Five 3.5-inch SAS/SATA hard drives are supported. There’s also a single external media reader and three 5.25-inch media bays. The Lenovo D20 workstation features an integrated 3Gb/s SATA controller and optional SAS controllers supporting RAID 0, 1, 5, and 10.
The Lenovo D20 supports up to 192GB of DDR3 memory can be installed on the D20 using 16GB RDIMM modules. UDIMM modules are supported but will not provide the same capacity. Depending on the processor and type of memory, either unbuffered or registered, memory speeds of up to 1333MHz are supported.
There are six expansion slots on the motherboard, including two PCIe Gen 2.0, two PCIe, and two legacy PCI slots to support additional external devices and graphics cards. Several different GPUs from Nvidia are supported, including the Quadro FX4800 and FX3800. A maximum of two Nvidia graphics cards can be installed but they must be the same model. Users can install a variety of different expansion cards to support increased I/O, a WiFi adapter card, and add a Firewire card. There are two USB 2.0 ports located on the front and eight USB 2.0 ports located on the back of the system to connect an abundance of external devices. Powering all of this hardware is a 1060W PSU.
The D20 offers plenty of power for 2d and moderate 3d rendering, and features plenty of storage with support for five internal hard drives.
