The HPE ProLiant MicroServer Gen8 is designed for small businesses looking to invest in their first server—or for the home office! The HPE MicroServer has a very small footprint and features HPE’s ProActive Insight Architecture, including iLO 4.0 for ease of provisioning, troubleshooting, and updating.
The HPE MicroServer is an ultra-micro tower measuring a little over nine inches in length, width, and height. It supports enterprise-class reliability with Intel Xeon processors, ECC memory, and integrated RAID support. The case itself is easy to access for repair or upgrade and supports an optional purpose built HPE PS1810 switch and HPE PS110 wireless VPN router for increased efficiency and productivity—they also stack neatly on top of the MicroServer! The system is easy to set up and configure right out of the box.
HPE's Gen8 MicroServer supports a single processor. Depending on your performance needs, choose from either an Intel Celeron, Pentium, Core, or Xeon processor. A maximum memory speed of 1600MHz is only available with either an Intel Core i3 or Intel Xeon processor. Power is provided by either a 150W or 200W non-hot plug, non-redundant power supply.
In total, the MicroServer Gen8 will support 16GB of DDR3 unbuffered (UDIMM) memory in two memory slots using a pair of 8GB memory modules. Memory from previous generation HPE servers are not fully compatible with the HPE MicroServer.
The HPE MicroServer can support up to four 3.5-inch 4TB SATA drives for a total of 16TB of storage. Storage bays one and two support transfer rates 6Gb/s, and bays three and four support 3Gb/s transfer speeds. An integrated HPE Dynamic Smart Array B120i controller supports RAID configurations of 0, 1, and 10. To enable RAID 5 you will need to install an HPE Smart Array P222 Controller with FBWC. Hot plug hard drives are not supported and a SATA DVD RW drive is optional.
The HPE MicroServer supports a single x16 PCIe slot for a low-profile card. Using a Celeron or Pentium processor will provide PCIe 2.0 speeds. With a Xeon processor installed, PCIe 3.0 is available. Video is provided by an integrated Matrox G200 standard providing resolutions up to 1920 x 1200 that also supports iLO On System Management Memory. An integrated HPE 1GbE dual port 332i adapter provides network connectivity.
Like other ProLiant servers, the HPE MicroServer comes with the iLO Management Engine, which can help manage the lifecycle of the server from deployment to general management and remote access. Integrated Lights Out (iLO 4.0) provides health monitoring and alerting functions independent of the OS. There’s also an optional shared RJ45 Ethernet iLO port, or you can go with the default dedicated iLO Remote Management Network Port with an internal microSD card that can be used to boot the system. Intelligent Provisioning helps users configure the system without the need for special setup disks or other additional media and also allows users to install an OS on a target device, like the MicroSD card. With the HPE iLO Mobile App, users can access, deploy, and manage the system anytime, anywhere from select mobile devices.
The HPE ProLiant MicroServer Gen8 has all the features you need to support your small business or home office. It provides all the essential components to help you reliably store and manage your network at an affordable price, and is very easy to set up using HPE's integrated tools.
