The Dell PowerEdge C6220 server is 2U shared infrastructure chassis that supports storage up front and up to four compute sleds each supporting two intel Xeon E5-2600 processors. This server is all about speed of processing and flexibility and can run multiple configurations in the same chassis.
The Dell C6220 rack server is designed to make short work of high-performance computing tacks, web hosting, data analytics, and cloud building. This server platform delivers tremendous computing power in a 2U space supporting up to 24 hot swap hard drives, and four independent, rear mounted server sleds each of which features dual intel Xeon processors and 16 DIMM slots.
Intel's Xeon E5-2600 processors support Turbo Boost and deliver an 80% jump in performance compared to the previous generation Xeon 5600 processors. The new Xeons also offer better power consumption. This platform supports four server nodes that are housed in the rear of the chassis. Each server node supports a maximum of two E5-2600 family processors. With all four sleds outfitted with dual processors that adds up to eight CPUs in a 2U space! Each compute sled also supports up to 16 memory modules.
Each of the four supported compute sleds supports a maximum of sixteen registered (RDIMM) or low voltage registered DIMM modules. Each sled will support up to 512GB of memory with all 16 memory slots populated by 32GB memory modules. With four fully loaded compute sleds, each 2U chassis will support up to 2TB of memory. Supported memory speeds include 1066MHz, 1333MHz, or 1600MHz depending on supported processor speed, memory speed, and memory configuration.
Storage on this system is supported by the chassis. Administrators have two chassis options; one that supports 24 x front mounted, hot swap 2.5-inch drives, or one that supports 12 x front mounted, hot swap 3.5-inch drives. A maximum of 48TB of storage is provided using SATA or nearline SAS HDDs. SAS, SATA, and nealine SAS HDDs and SATA SSDs are supported, depending on the installed HD controller. Internally mounted optical drives are not supported.
The 2U chassis supports three PCIe expansion slots. The x8 expansion slot can be used to increase I/O with 10Gb Ethernet, InfiniBand, or a SAS HBA. The x16 slot can be used to connect to the PowerEdge C410x PCIe expansion chassis for even more expansion options. There is also an i350, 2 x 1GbE port and a dedicated 1 x 100Mb E dedicated management port.
Limited management of the system supports base management controllers (BMCs) that comply with IPMI v2.0 to manage the system remotely or within the data center in an out-of-ban mode.
Dell's PowerEdge C6220 rack server is an excellent choice for High-performance computing applications and data center deployments. This system can help you save on space and rack storage racks with four independent hot-swap server nodes and the innovative chassis design also helps save more than 100W per chassis. Each of the nodes can run independently or can be combined with nodes in other chassis.
