The Dell PowerEdge R210 is a short-depth, single-socket entry-level server. It's affordable, easy to manage and is an ideal fit for small businesses and remote offices or for use as a specialized application server for a large business.
Great for use in a small business, or as a specialized application server for a large corporation, the Dell PowerEdge R210 server is very affordable and offers the performance and manageability that Dell is known for. It has the smallest footprint of any of Dell's 11th generation PowerEdge servers and still delivers a flexible, secure system that's easy to manage using Dell's integrated management tools.
Intel's 3420 chipset supports several different processors. Administrators can choose from either a single quad-core Xeon 3400 series processor, a dual-core Intel Celeron CPU, a dual-core Pentium CPU, or a dual-core Core i3 500 series processor. Powering the system and components is a single non-redundant 250W 80+ Bronze rated power supply.
The Dell R210 can host a maximum of two 3.5-inch or 2.5-inch HDD or SSD drives. The embedded PERC S100 is a software HD controller and supports SATA only. Using optional PERC raid controllers, like the PERC H800, the system will support SAS and SATA HDD and SSD drives with 6Gb/s transfer speeds. Several other optional storage controllers are available. The PowerEdge R210 also features a slimline optical disk drive.
The single processor supports up to 16GB of unbuffered DDR3 memory in four memory slots. You can also start out with a minimal configuration comprised of a single 1GB memory module. Transfer speeds are rated at either 1333MHz or 1066MHz depending on your choice of memory and processor.
There is a single PCIe x16 2.0 slot supporting cards rated under 25W for a single HD controller or NIC/LOM option. There are six USB ports total; two on the front, two on the back, and two internal.
iDRAC6 with LifeCycle controller is supported with an option to upgrade to Express or Enterprise with the purchase of a license key. With an Express or Enterprise license, additional advanced management features are available including remote access through a browser. iDRAC6 provides Administrators remote access to manage the server even when powered off. Dell OpenManage with the Dell Management Console is also supported.
The Dell PowerEdge R210 server is what Dell calls a "value-based" system. That means, this system does not have all the bells and whistles associate with the more advanced PowerEdge servers. It's streamlined to give you what you need in a small server at an affordable price—without all the stuff you don't need, and don't want to pay for. If you need an affordable server for your small business, or a test server for a larger enterprise application, the Dell R210 is an excellent choice and offers exceptional built-in management features for which Dell is known.
