Offering a dense 1U form factor, the Dell EMC PowerEdge R650 server features dual 3rd gen Intel Xeon Scalable processors to support a number of high-performance workloads. The chassis can house 2.5-inch SAS, SATA or NVMe or 3.5-inch SAS or SATA storage options. It can be outfitted with up to 8TB of Persistent Memory 200 series modules.
3rd generation Intel Xeon Scalable processors provide up to 40x physical cores and 80x virtual threads at the Platinum level, or 32x cores max with Gold, and up to 20x cores using Silver level CPUs. All three families support PCIe 4.0 for improved bandwidth for I/O and NVMe storage devices, like those supported on this system. With both processors installed, this system can provide up to 80 physical cores for computationally demanding applications. Depending on how the system is configured, there are several options for dual power supply units (PSU) including 800W, 1100W, 1400W operating with AC/240 mixed mode, and an 1100W DC option. The system can also be outfitted with up to 3x 75W single-width GPUs.
With 32x DDDR4 DIMM slots split between the two processors, each CPU has 16x slots that can be outfitted with 2x DIMMs per memory channel. Up to 16x Intel Persistent memory module series 200 can be installed in combination with Load-Reduced DIMMs (LRDIMM) for a maximum memory capacity of up to 12TB. Registered DIMMs (RDIMM) will provide up to 2TB at capacity with LRDIMMS providing up to 8TB and speeds of up to 3200MT/s.
A number of PowerEdge RAID Controllers (PERC) are available on the Dell R650 server providing varying RAID options for both internal and external storage applications. A number of storage configurations are available on the front of the chassis supporting either 2.5-inch or 3.5-inch drive formats with either SAS, SATA or NVMe storage options. A maximum of 4x 3.5-inch drives, SAS, SATA, or NVMe or 8 to 12x 2.5-inch SAS, SATA or NVMe storage options. 2x more 2.5-inch SAS, SATA or NVMe drives can be housed in a separate drive cage in the back of the chassis for up to 30.7TB of additional storage. M.2 drives can be installed in a specific PCIe slot on the system board using Dell’s Boot Optimized Storage Subsystem (BOSS) card which supports dual M.2 drives in a hardware RAID for redundancy. SAS drives will require a discrete controller card.
The system features an embedded NIC with 2x 1 GbE LOM ports plus a mezzanine card slot for an optional OCP 3.0 card offering several port and connection speed options depending on your choice. Thee is a maximum of 3x PCIe 4.0 low-profile slots on the system board with 2x x16 and 1x x8. As an option the system can also be configured with 2x full-height slots. As mentioned previously, the system can be configured with up to 3x single-width GPUs. The BOSS that can be used to boot the system in a mirrored RAID has a dedicated slot on the system board.
The highly adaptable Dell EMC PowerEdge R650 can be used to support AI and Machine Learning environments, plus database and analytics applications. With 3rd generation intel Xeon Scalable processors, it offers PCIe 4.0 for better bandwidth for I/O and NVMe storage devices. With optional direct liquid cooling support, it is an ideal addition to the data center delivering outstanding performance for demanding applications. The system also features the proprietary integrated Dell Remote Access Controller (iDRAC9) plus OpenManage Enterprise enabling Administrators to get the most out of the system through remote access and automation. With support for up to 8TB of Intel Optane PMem 200 series memory modules plus several storage options, this platform can be configured a number of ways to support your growing business.
