The Dell EMC PowerEdge R7415 comes with AMD's new EPYC processors which deliver great performance with one processor. This is a very versatile system allowing many different configurations to meet your specific computational needs. It is perfect for operations requiring lots of memory and storage.
The EPYC Dell EMC PowerEdge R7415 server is an excellent platform for virtualization, business analytics, and scale-out applications. The EPYC processors offer more cores, more memory channels, and more PCIe lanes than comparable Intel Xeon processors, although keep in mind, the processors don’t share the same architecture. The EPYC processors also feature what Dell calls a cyber-resilient architecture to protect your data and help protect the system from malicious or unintentional changes.
A single AMD EPYC 7000 series processor with up to 32 cores, and 64 threads provides the computational power on this platform. These new AMD EPYC processors feature 128 PCIe 3.0 lanes, eight memory channels, and up to 2TB of memory each. Compare that to Intel Xeon Scalable processors that support 48 PCIe lanes, six memory channels, and up to 1.5TB of memory each. An industry first x86 security solution can be found on the EPYC processors chip architecture.
16 DDR4 DIMM slots are supported on the Dell EMC R7415 server. Each of the eight memory channels support two memory modules per channel, for a total of 16 active DIMM slots. While Registered (RDIMM) and Load Reduced (LRDIMM) memory modules are supported on this system, NVDIMMS are not. Using 128GB memory modules will provide a maximum memory capacity of 2TB.
When it comes to storage options, this system has a lot of flexibility. Configurations include 24x 2.5-inch SATA, SAS or NVMe drives or 12x 3.5-inch SAS/SATA HDD drives. An optional rear mounted drive cage can be installed in one of the risers and supports 2x 3.5-inch SAS/SATA HDD drives.
Three x16 and one x8 Gen3 slots support additional PCIe cards to support more NICs or HD controllers. With the optional network daughter card (NDC), transfer speeds between 1 GbE and 10 GbE can be achieved depending on what your workload requires. The front ports of the system are composed of Video, two USB 2.0, two USB 3.0, and an iDRAC dedicated Direct Micro-USB port. The rear of the system includes video, serial, two USB 3.0, and an iDRAC dedicated network port.
Dell’s integrated Dell Remote Access Controller (iDRAC9) with LifeCycle controller provides out of band management features for the Dell R7415. iDRAC along with the OpenManage console make managing the system easy, both remotely and on-site. The OpenManage Mobile app is available free from Dell and works with the Quick Sync 2.0 wireless module to easily access system management options at the chassis using an Android or iOS smart phone or tablet.
The Dell EMC PowerEdge R7415, equipped with the newly introduced AMD EPYC 7000 series processors is a great system for companies that require high-capacity memory with generous storage. The AMD EPYC processor has a cyber resilient architecture with integrated security features. Dell also provides a selection of highly effective tools to manage your system on-site and remotely. It delivers exceptional expansion possibilities for a growing business and supports a number of common business applications.
