Performance

Intel’s 3rd generation Xeon Scalable processors provide up to 40 physical cores and 80 virtual threads for a up to 80 cores with both processors installed. 3rd gen CPUs also support PCIe 4.0 offering twice the bandwidth compared to PCIe 3.0, and better performance in generation for I/O and NVMe storage devices. The system is powered by dual redundant power supply units (PSU) in several different wattages including, 1400 W, 1800 W, 2400 W and 2800 W in Platinum or Titanium respectively. Up to 4x double-wide and 8x single wide GPU cards can be installed via PCIe slots.

Memory

There are 32x DDR4 memory module slots total, with 16x slots per CPU socket. Registered DIMMs (RDIMM) will provide up to 2TB max., while Load-Reduced DIMMs (LRDIMM) will provide up to 4TB of memory. Up to 16x Intel Persistent Memory (PMem) 200 series modules can be installed for up to 8TB paired with up to 2TB of LRDIMMs installed in the remaining slots and equally distributed between the CPUs for up to 10TB max. Only ECC memory is supported.

Storage

Various storage configurations are supported and include 8x NVMe in a RAID or 6x NVMe direct attached drives. Also, up to 8x SAS/SATA drives, which can be configured in a RAID or a combination of 4x SAS/SATA with 4x NVMe direct attached. Several PowerEdge RAID controllers (PERC) are supported for control of internal drives. The Dell R750xa Server can also support one of Dell’s Boot Optimized Storage Subsystem (BOSS) Cards to boot the system in a mirrored RAID for redundancy. This system is also compatible with external storage devices including external tape, network attached Storage (NAS) and identity management appliance (IDM) software, plus just a bunch of disks (JBOD) appliances.

Expansion

This system supports several different riser configurations depending on your storage needs with some riser slots outfitted with direct attach NVMe cards. There is also an optional BOSS riser card that can be installed and is accessible from the back of the system so the top cover panel need not be removed. In addition, an internal dual SD card module can be installed as an option. A x8 OCP mezzanine card slot provides for optional network connection ports and connection speeds with a number of OCP mezzanine card options. There are 2 GPU to the left and right at the front of the chassis that can be outfitted with up to 4x double-wide GPUs from NVIDIA or AMD up to 300W each or up to 8x single-wide GPUs. The low-profile, single wide NVIDIA T4 GPU card is supported with 4x in front and 4x more installed at the rear of the chassis.

Summary

The system is purpose built to run PCIe GPUs for HPC, virtual desktop infrastructure (VDI), database analytics, and many other accelerated workloads. It comes with integrated Dell Remote Access Controller (iDRAC9) 9.0 Essentials but a high-speed network connection is recommended. This system also features the integrated Dell Remote Access Controller, or iDRAC9.0, for remote and at chassis management of the system. The Dell OpenManage Portfolio also provides additional to effectively deploy, update, monitor, and manage IT assets. The system is also compatible with third party consoles. The Dell PowerEdge R750xa Server is highly adaptable for a number of high-performance workloads and designed to work seamlessly with GPU accelerators from NVIDIA. The system can be outfitted with an LCD panel bezel, a standard bezel or no bezel at all.
