Designed for dense computational applications, the 2U Dell PowerEdge R860 Server is a quad-socket system compatible with 4th Generation Intel Xeon Scalable processors. A total of 64x DDR5 DIMM slots are available on the system board for a maximum memory capacity of 16TB. On the front of the server, the maximum number of drive bays supported are 24x with options for SAS, SATA, NVMe and EDSFF Gen5 E3.S drive types. The rear of the server houses up to 8x PCIe Gen5 slots and optional rear storage drive bays.
Outfitted 2x or 4x 4th Generation Intel Xeon Scalable processors, the Dell R860 server houses a total of 64x DDR5 DIMM slots. CPU options are limited to a maximum thermal design point of 350W and a physical core count of 60x with Intel Hyperthreading technology providing up to 120x virtual threads. Fully configured, the maximum supported memory capacity is 16TB of DDR5 Registered DIMMs. Memory speeds of up to 4800MHz are supported depending on CPU, memory modules, and configuration. Storage options include up to 24x SAS/SATA/NVMe drive bays on the front and options for up to 4x E3.S Gen5 NVMe drive bays or 2x 2.5-inch SAS, SATA on the rear of the server.
Featuring 8x PCIe Gen5 expansion slots on the rear of this server, expanding the capabilities of this system are plentiful. A 1GbE LOM card with dual ports provide basic network connections with a single optional OCP 3.0 mezzanine card offering additional ports and connection link speeds. The PCIe slots provide additional opportunities for network connections, and storage controllers. GPUs are not supported on this system. To power this system there are multiple options which include 1100W, 1800W, or 2800W Titanium rated power supplies and 1400W or 2400W Platinum power supplies in a redundant configuration. System temperatures are regulated by up to 6x hot plug standard fans.
Management of the system is through Dell’s OpenManage system management portfolio offering a one-to-many management and overview of system resources. Integrated Dell Remote Management Console or iDRAC with lifecycle controller delivers easy to use and intuitive management options for a single server. Dell’s Quick Sync 2 wireless management module can also be used to manage the system at chassis on combination with the Dell OpenManage App compatible with Android or iOS smart phones or tablets.
