Key workloads include high-performance computing, AI, machine learning (ML) and deep learning (DL), plus SAP/HANA, Oracle SQL, database, data warehouse, and virtualization including virtual machines (VM), and virtual desktop infrastructure (VDI). This system features up to 12x PCIe Gen5 slots with either full height, half-length slots, or low profile, half-length slots. In addition, the PowerEdge R960 server also supports a single OCP 3.0 card and 2x optional 1 GbE LOM cards. The system allows both cards to be installed in the system. Power supply units range from 1100W Titanium hot-swap redundant units to 2800W Titanium hot-swap redundant PSUs. An optional LCD bezel or security bezel can be installed on the 4U server.
Base units include 2x processors and up to 32 memory module slots. The base unit can be scaled to include 2x more CPUs for 4x total with the addition of a Processor Expansion Module (PEM), required for installing the third and fourth processors. The PEM also includes 32x additional memory module slots, and controls a portion of the supported PCIe Gen5 expansion slots. For support of AI-based business applications, the system can be configured with up to 4x 400W double-wide GPU accelerators. It can also be configured to support more virtual desktops with 4x VDI accelerators.
The system can be easily managed either using the integrated Dell Remote Access Controller (iDRAC9) Enterprise, or managed as part of a larger infrastructure using Dell’s OpenManage Enterprise utility. Both offer secure remote management of the system with OpenManage providing one-to-many centralized and automated management, for remote provisioning, troubleshooting, automation, and management.
