Administrators can also daisy-chain two of these enclosures together for over a petabyte of data in just a 10U space. Hot-swappable components keep mission-critical applications up and running during replacements and upgrades.
This rack-dense, two-drawer enclosure requires a minimum of 28 large form factor drives. Easily expand this enclosure in groups of 14 storage devices to reach the max enclosure capacity of 84 drives totaling up to 672TB of data. Administrators can daisy-chain up to two Dell MD1280 enclosures together for a total of 168 drives and up to 1.3PB of data to satisfy even the most data-intensive applications. Hard drives are connected via a direct SAS connection to keep system performance at its peak and allow for faster transaction time. System downtime is reduced during component replacement and upgrades with the enclosure's hot-swappable drives, fans, management modules, and power supplies. Two enclosure management modules (EMMs) deliver redundant enclosure management capability and RAID management is provided through Dell's Storage System Manager Software.
