Dell PowerVault MD2412 Storage Array

The Dell PowerVault MD2412 Storage Array is a 2U direct-attached storage (DAS) solution which connects to the SAS ports on the back of a host system, and the management software running on the host system manages the enclosure. It features up to 12x hot-swappable 3.5-inch HDD drive bays arranged in a space-efficient four-column, three-row configuration. A minimum of two drives is required to operate, with the system supporting expansion across up to 8x enclosures to accommodate up to 96 drives. This setup enables a maximum storage capacity of up to 1.92PB, making it an ideal solution for growing data storage needs. This chassis is not compatible with SATA, SSD, NVMe, vSAS, or 2.5" drives.

The cost-effective, high-density PowerVault MD2412 offers a 24Gb/s SAS4 connection, providing twice the bandwidth of previous-generation Dell MD storage solutions. Each MD2412 enclosure is equipped with dual redundant, hot-swappable 800W power supply units and 2x redundant enclosure management modules (EMMs). To ensure proper operation, both EMMs must be connected to the server, as the enclosure only supports redundant configurations. The following PowerEdge servers support the MD2412:

Dell's OpenManage software, powered by the Integrated Dell Remote Access Controller (iDRAC), both web-based and command line interfaces for local and remote management. Administrators can efficiently manage multiple systems, even when the server is off, from a single interface such as a tablet or smartphone. The automated diagnostic reports simplify troubleshooting, making it easy to identify and resolve system issues. The Dell MD2412 is ideal for a wide range of data center applications, such as disaster recovery storage, databases, and business applications.
