Part of Dell’s ME5 series storage arrays, the Dell PowerVault ME5024 Storage Array is a base system designed to be a simple, fast, and affordable. Two non-dense options include the 2U ME5025, ME5012 storage arrays and the high-density ME5084 at 5U. They offer support for dual controllers, plus SAS access speeds of 12GB/s read and 10GB/s write. ME5 controllers can connect to host systems using either a switch-attach or direct-attach.
Network Attached Storage or NAS is only supported using the NX Series Windows NAS appliance. Either a single controller or dual controllers are supported with the 2U base system which includes the Dell PowerVault ME5024 and ME5012 Storage Arrays. The 5U systems require dual controllers and includes the ME5084. Each controller features 8GB of memory and 16GB of cache, for 24GB total memory. Each controller also has up to 8x ports for network communications, expansion enclosures, and general I/O. All-flash, hybrid-flash and HDD-only arrays are supported in a native black-level SAN or DAS format.
Supported Controller CardsOffering a 12Gb/s SAS backend protocol, the Dell PowerVault ME5024 can be rapidly expanded to increase capacity using optional expansion enclosures and enable scale up of storage assets to up to 276 drives. The PowerVault ME5024 features a raw capacity per base of up to 184TB. Storage mediums include SAS, NL-SAS and SSDs with a host interface of Fibre Channel (FC) at 32Gb, iSCSI at 25GbE with optical or BaseT at up to 10GBase-T, and a12Gb HD mini-SAS connection. An important consideration when cabling controllers for replication is that FC and iSCSI protocols support replication, while SAS product models do not.
Supported Expansion Enclosures Dell PowerVault ME412 Expansion Enclosure - 12x 3.5" drive bays - 2UThe system is powered by dual, redundant 580W PSUs, supported by 100-240 VAC (Volts Alternating Current). Management of the system is through PowerVault Manager HTML5 GUI element manager, which is also supported by a command line interface (CLI), and OpenManage Enterprise 3.9. Several other management protocols are compatible including a VMware vCenter plugin to manage ME5 storage arrays.
