The Fujitsu PRIMERGY TX300 S8 server tower is designed for small and medium-sized businesses that demand high computing power at a budget-friendly price point. This server offers high-availability, full redundancy, and an impressive amount of internal storage to satisfy a wide variety of business applications.
This platform is designed to handle just about any task, from general business applications to computationally intensive applications like high-performance computing (HPC). The Fujitsu PRIMERGY TX300 S8 server tower is a scalable platform with dual-sockets and flexible storage options. It offers support for both large and small form factor drives, as well as hard-disk and solid-state drives, allowing System Admins to create the optimal storage environment for the anticipated workload. Optimized for the SMB market, this server is a cost-efficient solution featuring extensive power management tools and 96% efficiency power supplies.
Administrators can install one or two Intel Xeon E5-2600 v2 processors with four to 12 cores each. Intel’s Xeon E5-2600 v2 processors provide a 30% increase in overall system performance compared to servers based on previous generation processors. When loaded with a pair of Intel’s top-tier processors, 24 cores and 48 virtual threads are available. Power consumption has been reduced with integrated power gates on the processor die that automatically adjust idling cores to a near-zero power state. To accelerate system performance, this server can support NVIDIA’s Tesla K40 or Intel’s Xeon Phi coprocessors. For the most demanding High-Performance Computing (HPC) applications, NVIDIA’s Tesla K40 GPU accelerator offers up to 2,880 cores and 12GB of memory.
In a dual-processor configuration, the Fujitsu TX300 S8 will support up to 24 memory modules. This server supports unbuffered (UDIMM), registered (RDIMM), and load-reduced (LRDIMM) memory modules. System Administrators should note that a maximum of eight modules per CPU, or 16 modules per system, are supported when using UDIMM or quad-rank RDIMM memory modules. Installing top of the line 64GB DDR3 LRDIMMs will provide the system’s maximum memory capacity of 1.5TB. Depending on the choice of processor and type of memory, transfer speeds of up to 1866 MHz are available. Transfer speeds default to the slowest performer between the processor and memory, so both should support the targeted transfer speed.
There are two basic chassis configurations for this server. One that supports up to 12 large-form factor (LFF) drives and another chassis with up to 24 small-form-factor (SFF) drives. To reduce system downtime during repairs or upgrades, all drives are hot-swappable. Both configurations support SAS or SATA hard-disk or solid-state drives. Solid-state drives offer faster transfer speeds, consume less power, and are more reliable than traditional hard-disk drives. If desired, optional accessible drives can be added to this platform. Systems configured with LFF drives can support an additional four LFF drives or a Linear Tape-Open LTO device. SFF drive configurations can be upgraded to support another eight SFF drives and an LTO device for backup.
Systems with one processor installed will support five full-height PCIe slots for expansion. Adding a second processor will double the amount of PCIe slots available to ten. Throughout the system, there are ten USB 2.0 ports, two of which are internal ports to connect backup devices. Two video graphic array (VGA) ports are split between the front and the back of the chassis for video device connection. Standard configurations support two Gb/s RJ45 ports, but Ethernet capabilities can be upgraded to support up to four additional ports, or two 10Gb/s SFP+ ports.
System management is provided by Fujitsu’s ServerView Suite software which has a user-friendly interface that even beginner-level System Administrators can use with ease. Comprehensive power management tools, such as scheduling pre-defined power profiles, allow businesses to save on energy-costs. The software’s Storage Manager allows System Administrators to monitor and control hard disk arrays that are directly connected to the server as well as network storage systems. Day-to-day server management is simplified with ServerView’s Resource Orchestrator Visual Edition (ROR VE) which integrates the management of physical and virtual server environments to alleviate issues common in mixed environments.
The Fujitsu PRIMERGY TX300 S8 server tower is a cost-effective, scalable platform powered by a pair of Intel Xeon E5-2600 v2 processors. System admins have their choice of small or large form factor drive configurations, as well as traditional spinning HDDs and high-performance SSDs. Memory configurations also provide flexibility with support for either RDIMM, UDIMM, or LRDIMM memory modules. This server is ideal for a wide variety of business applications, including both virtual and cloud environments, HPC applications, or computer tomography.
