Performance

A single 4th or 5th generation Intel Xeon Scalable processor with up to 64 cores and 128 threads is supported by the Intel C741 chipset. The compatible processor family includes the Platinum, Gold, and Silver processors with a TDP of up to 350W. The CPU leverages 8x memory channels for more memory bandwidth, and can also support PCIe 5.0 offering twice the bandwidth compared to PCIe 4.0. The system is powered by dual 800W 80 PLUS Platinum redundant PSUs.

Memory

With 8x memory channels to work with, the Gigabyte R163-S30 server will support up to 16x DDR5 memory modules for a potential of up to 4TB of memory. Outfitted with 3DS RDIMMs, the system will support up to 4TB of memory using 256GB modules in all 16 slots. Half of that capacity is available when standard 128GB RDIMMs are loaded in each slot. Memory speeds of up to 4400MHz can be reached with 2x DIMMs per channel or up to 4800MHz with a single DIMM per channel. After the memory is installed, the BIOS will automatically detect the specifications and capacity of the memory. The system also supports Intel Optane Persistent Memory 300 series modules for even higher memory density.

Storage

SATA, SAS, and NVMe drives are supported on this chassis, depending on your configuration and revision, but SAS devices are only supported with the appropriate SAS card. There are 4x Gen4 hot-swappable 3.5” drive bays on the front panel of the Gigabyte R163-S30 server that will support 3.5” or 2.5” form factors. With a tool-less drive tray, the drive bays are user friendly and drives can be easily removed and replaced. Users will find an ultra-fast M.2 slot with a PCIe Gen3 x4 interface on the system board suitable for 2280 or 22110 form factors. There are 2 revisions to this server with slight differences.

Expansion

You get 2x PCIe Gen5 x16 expansion slots, which can achieve 128GB/s bandwidth. There are also 2x OCP 3.0 Gen5 x16 mezzanine slots on this system for the next generation of add-on NIC cards. On the back of the chassis there is a single 1Gb/s LAN port via the Intel I210-AT controller and a dedicated management port.
