The Gigabyte R163-SG2 server has single-socket design supporting a 4th or 5th generation Intel Xeon Scalable processor or an Intel Xeon CPU Max series CPU. Intel Xeon Scalable Platinum, Gold or Silver can be loaded into the server with Platinum processors providing the highest core count at up to 64 physical cores and 128 virtual threads. With the powerful performance of these processors, the system offers an 8-channel memory architecture with up to 16x DDR5 memory module slots supporting 2x DIMMs per channel. Up to 2TB of memory is supported using 128GB Registered (RDIMM) memory modules in all slots or up to 4TB with 256GB 3DS RDIMMs in all slots. Memory speeds range between 4800MHz to 4400MHz depending on CPU, Configuration and memory modules.
On the front side of the 1U R163-SG2 server there are a total of 12x drive bays. Four bays are distinguished by lime green tabs, which support 2.5” Gen5 NVMe, SATA, or SAS4 hot-swappable bays. An additional 8x 2.5” drives, marked by blue tabs, can deploy SATA/SAS4 hot-swappable drives. For more storage, or to boot the operating system, the motherboard offers 1x M.2 PCIe Gen3 x4 slot supporting 2280 or 22110 form factors. The PCIe 5.0 ready platform features 3x FHFL PCIe x16 expansion slots and an additional OCP 3.0 Gen5 x16 slot for an optional NIC. The system can also support a single FHFL PCIe Gen5 x16 slot for a double-wide GPU card from the following manufacturers: AMD, NVIDIA, Qualcomm, or XILINX. This chassis is designed for high-performance computing applications covering a number of different industries including content producers, data scientists, researchers, and engineers.
