Gigabyte R163-Z32 server drive cages

A single AMD EPYC processor from the 9004 series family supports 16 to 96 cores and up to 192 threads on the MZ33-DC0 motherboard. The 5nm technology CPU supports up to 12x memory module slots and a 12-channel memory architecture, plus a variety of thermal design point (TDP) ranges. The TDP starts at 320W and increases to 360W at an ambient temperature of 30°C, and 400W at 25°C. Dual 1300W 80 PLUS Platinum redundant PSUs can be found on the rear of the chassis to support the server’s components.

Memory

The 4th Gen AMD EPYC CPU upholds 12x memory channels to support 12x DIMM slots with up and DDR5 memory. It can accommodate up to 3TB of memory with all 12x DIMM slots filled with 3DS RDIMMs with a maximum capacity of 256GB. The system can accommodate up to 1TB of memory using standard RDIMMs with 128GB memory modules per slot. A maximum memory speed of 4800MHz is possible, but the BIOS will automatically detect the specifications and capacity of the memory once the slots are populated.

Storage

The front of the Gigabyte R163-Z32 has 12x 2.5” drive bays with lime green tabs. These hot-swappable drive bays support Gen4 NVMe, SATA, or SAS configurations, but a SAS card is required for SAS device support. Users can also take advantage of the ultra-fast PCIe Gen3 x4 M.2 slot on the motherboard supporting 2280 or 22110 form factors. There are 3 revisions of this platform.

Expansion

Gigabyte R163-Z32 server rear

Two PCIe Gen5 x16 expansion slots with a 128GB/s bandwidth are provided on the R163-Z32 server. Additionally, this system has 2x OCP 3.0 Gen5 x16 mezzanine slots for the newest Network Interface Controller (NIC) add-on cards. A single 1Gb/s LAN port supported by the Intel I210-AT controller and a dedicated management port supported by the Aspeed AST2600 management controller are both located on the back of the chassis.
