Description

For use as a shared Internet connection, for general file storage or for use as a virtual server, the Gigabyte R182-NC0 server delivers impressive performance with dual intel Xeon Scalable processors and a substantial memory footprint. This 1U platform features 12x 2.5-inch storage bays up front capable of supporting SAS, SATA or Gen4 NVMe hot swap drive formats supported by a hybrid backplane. Power is provided by dual 80PLUS Platinum PSUs offering 1+1 redundancy.

Performance

One or two Platinum, Gold or Silver 3rd generation “Ice Lake” Intel Xeon Scalable processors can be installed on this system. With a thermal design point of up to 270W it can be outfitted with processors supporting up to 40 cores and 80 virtual threads, each. Ice Lake CPUs also feature PCIe 4.0 and 8-channel memory for increased memory density.

Memory

With 8x memory channels and 32x memory modules slots, this 1u networking server can support 2x memory modules in each memory channel. Standard and 3DS Load-Reduced (LRDIMM) and Registered (RDIMM) memory modules are supported on this chassis. 3DS versions will provide twice the maximum capacity at 8TB compared to only 4TB using standard LRDIMM or RDIMMs. Depending on the choice of CPUs, memory modules and configuration, memory will run at speeds ranging from 2666MHz to 3200MHz.

Storage

12x storage bays up front can support SAS, SATA or NVMe drive formats thanks to a hybrid backplane. The hybrid backplane provides connection for NVMe with PCIe 4.0 bandwidth, SATA at 6Gb/s, and SAS at 12Gb/s. However, SAS drive support does require a discrete HBA/RAID controller. The integrated Intel C621A Express Chipset will provide limited RAID support for SATA implementations of 0, 1, 5, or 10. Virtual RAID on CPU is supported with a vROC module.

Expansion

There are 2x PCIe 4.0 x16 slots which are hosted in 2x separate risers. The Gigabyte R182-NC0 Server also has a PCIe4.0 x16 mezzanine card slot for use with an optional OCP 3.0 mezzanine card that can provide additional network connection ports and connection speeds without using up the limited PCIe slots. Another PCIe Gen3 x8 mezzanine card slot provides support for an optional OCP 2.0 mezzanine card, also featuring additional network connection ports and connection speeds.

Management

The single dedicated management port on the back of the system provides access to the ASPEED AST2600 baseboard management controller (BMC) for at chassis and remote management of the system. Offered free of charge is the Gigabyte Management Console, which comes pre-loaded on the system and uses the AMI MegaRAC SP-X server management firmware. Gigabyte Server Manager (GSM) is also provided free of charge and provides a suite of tools for managing large groups or clusters of servers.
