CPUs with up to 128 cores and 256 threads per processor are supported. Those with a maximum TDP of up to 300W at an ambient temperature 35°C can be installed, but under limited thermal conditions CPUs with a TDP of up to 400W are supported. Built for networking applications such as file storage, file access via VPN, and a virtual server, the Gigabyte R183-Z96 server supports 3x M.2 slots with 2x having a PCIe Gen3 x4 form factor and 1x supporting PCIe Gen3 x2. All slots support 2280 or 22110 cards.

In addition, the platform features 2x PCIe x16 (Gen5 x16) FHHL slots and 2x OCP 3.0 mezzanine card slots with a PCIe Gen5 x16 bandwidth. Providing power are dual, redundant 1600W 80 PLUS Platinum PSUs. 2x integrated GbE RJ45 ports provide basic network functions along with an integrated GbE management LAN port for remote management of the system. This model has 2x revisions with different power supply configurations. Rev. AAD1
