Designed for general networking applications, the Gigabyte R282-P91 server can be outfitted with one or two Arm-based Ampere Altra Max CPUs. The second-generation Max CPUs support up to 128 cores, and with both processors installed, can field up to 8TB of memory thanks to 8-memory channel architecture. The 24x Gen4 NVMe bays up front provide fast reliable storage for virtualization, general file sharing, use as a VPN server and a number of other critical tasks. 4x more storage bays in the rear of the chassis provide options for additional storage or to support the operating system. Dual 1600W PLUS Platinum power supply units provide 1+1 redundancy ensuring continuous up time.
Second-generation Max processors will provide up to 128 cores per CPU. With 2x Max processors installed, the system can provide up to 256 cores. With only a single CPU installed some PCIe and memory functions are unavailable.
Featuring an 8-memory channel architecture, there are 32x DDR4 DIMM slots on the system board evenly divided between the two CPU sockets. Two memory modules per channel are supported with memory speeds of up to 3200MT/s. Registered DIMMs (RDIMM) and Load-Reduced DIMMs (LRDIMM) are supported in capacities of up to 256GB per module for a total capacity on the system of up to 8TB of memory.
There are 24x 2.5-inch Gen4 NVMe storage bays on the front of the system offering hot-swap capabilities. 4x more SATA hot-swap bays are found on the rear of the chassis and controlled by the onboard controller. A single NVMe M.2 drive can be installed on the system board using the x4 PCIe 4.0 connector.
With 4x full-height x16 PCIe 4.0 slots at the back of the R282-P91 server, there is ample opportunity to customize this platform to suit your workload requirements. Additional network controllers are supported offering connection speeds of up to 200Gb/s.
Gigabyte’s Management Console provides capabilities to manage a single server or a small cluster and comes pre-loaded on the system. The Gigabyte Server Manager, or GSM, offers even more utilities and can support multiple servers and large server clusters. GSM and the Management Console are accessed through a standard browser and provide an easy-to-use intuitive user interface. Additional 3rd party management tools are supported.
