Housed in a 2U chassis, the Gigabyte R283-Z97 is compatible with dual 4th or 5th Generation AMD EPYC Series processors with up to 192 cores each and a TDP of 240W. Each CPU socket is connected to 12x DDR5 DIMM slots for a total of 24x DIMM slots on the system board. Power is provided by dual redundant 2700W Titanium PSUs for rev. AAL1 or by 2400W PSUs for rev AAF1.

System expansion is achieved 4x PCIe Gen5 x16 slots, two of which are reserved for GPU installation. The networking capabilities on the R283-Z97 include 2x 1GbE LAN ports as well as 1x 10/100/1000 management LAN port. Each CPU is connected to a single M.2 slot which is occupied by 6x SATA ports. To regulate the temperatures in the system, there are 4x 80mm fans in the chassis. Gigabyte offers a few management solutions including the pre-installed Gigabyte Management Console for managing a single server or small cluster and the Gigabyte Server Manager for multiple servers or large clusters.
