Designed for Storage, networking or use as a hybrid/private cloud server, the dual-socket Gigabyte R284-S91 Server, has 32x E3.S drive bays. It supports Intel Xeon 6 processors from either the 6700 series with E-Cores, 6700 series with P-Cores, or 6500 series with P-Cores. 2x GbE ports on the back of the system provide an integrated network connection.
Each CPU supports a TDP of up to 350W, but when only 1 CPU is installed some PCIe or memory functions will be unavailable. The 2U system delivers an 8-channel memory architecture among 32x memory module slots. Standard RDIMMs are supported with memory speeds reaching 6400 MT/s, as well as MCRDIMMs with up to 8000 MT/s. The latter are only supported when Intel Xeon 6 CPUs with P-Cores are installed in a 1 DPC configuration.
The front of the Gigabyte R284-S91 also supports 32x E3.S Gen5 NVMe hot-swappable drive bays, in addition to the 2x 2.5” SATA/SAS4 hot-swap drives on the rear of the chassis. For more storage, administrators can deploy 2x internal M.2 slots with a PCIe Gen5 x4 interface for 2280 and 22110 form factor cards. On the rear of the server there is 1x FHHL PCIe Gen5 x16 slot and 1x OCP 3.0 Gen5 x16 slot. This system is powered by dual 2000W 80 PLUS Titanium 1+1 redundant power supplies which can be accessed through the rear of the chassis.
To effectively manage the R284-S91 server, Gigabyte utilizes its pre-installed software, the Gigabyte Management Console. The Gigabyte Management Console is designed to monitor and control a single server or a small cluster. To handle larger clusters of servers seamlessly the Gigabyte Server Management (GSM) software suite is downloadable, and provides for remote and at chassis management of the network. Additional software utilities such as the GSM Plugin enable it to work with VMware vCenter.
