The 12-bay Gigabyte R284-SF0 offers a 3.5” drive bay configuration with support for Gen5 NVMe/SATA/SAS4 hot-swappable drives. 2.5” drive form factors are also supported. A storage card is required to support SATA and SAS drives. In addition to the external bays, the platform provides 1x M.2 PCIe Gen5 x4 slot on the motherboard to boot the operating system. This slot is compatible with 2280 and 22110 form factor cards. Both standard RDIMMs and MCRDIMMs are supported, but the latter can only be used when accompanied by Intel Xeon 6 CPUs with P-cores in a 1DPC (1x DIMM Per Channel) configuration. Memory speeds are different for RDIMMs and MCRDIMMs. RDIMMs can reach up to 6400 MT/s (1DPC) or 5200 MT/s (2DPC). MCRDIMMs can reach up to 8000 MT/s.
In total, the chassis holds 5x PCIe Gen5 slots, which can be populated by up to 4x GPUs. An additional PCIe Gen5 x16 slot features a FHHL configuration. In addition to the PCIe slots, this server delivers 1x OCP NIC 3.0 Gen5 x16 slot with support for NCSI functions. The OCP mezzanine card slot can support a number of different link widths and port configurations. This system is powered by dual 2700W 80 Plus Titanium redundant power supplies.
To manage the R284-SF0 server, there are two pre-installed software tools that are free of charge, courtesy of Gigabyte. The Gigabyte Server Management (GSM) consists of several utilities, making it a suite of resources that can oversee multiple servers or a large cluster. On the other hand, the Gigabyte Management Console can manage a single server or a small cluster. Both can be utilized locally or remotely.
