The HPE ProLiant m710x Server Cartridge features a single intel Xeon E3 CPU and is designed for HPE’s new EdgeLine EL1000 and EdgeLine EL4000 converged platforms. It’s also compatible with HPE’s Moonshot 1500 chassis, which can support up to 45 server cartridges. These are rugged server sleds that are designed for the Internet of Things (IoT) applications combining data capture, control, and storage for real-time decision-making.
The HPE ProLiant m710x Server Cartridge offers powerful performance from Intel’s Xeon E3 CPU for remote locations that need on the spot processing. With IoT sensors and systems constantly generating mountains of data, the m710x server cartridge can provide on the spot processing and analysis of data in remote locations when paired with the EdgeLine EL1000 or EL4000. Also, integrated on the Xeon E3 CPU is Intel Iris Pro P580 graphics with 128MB of embedded DRAM.
A single Intel Xeon E3-1585L v5 processor is integrated on the small motherboard. It offers four cores, 8MB of L3 cache, turbo boost, and supports DDR4 memory modules running at up to 2133MHz. The Xeon E3 processor supports two memory channels.
Storage on the HPE m710x is provided by up to five M.2 storage devices. One SATA M.2 2242 form factor storage device is read-intensive for boot and supports up to 240GB but an NVMe M.2 SSD can also be installed. The other four storage drives are M.2 NVMe modules that snap into two connectors on the top, and two on the bottom of the cartridge. Those last four M.2 can be outfitted with up to 2TB each for a total of 8.25TB of super-fast storage. The Intel Xeon E3 System on a Chip (SoC) and intel’s C236 Chipset include an integrated SATA and PCIe controller.
Each memory channel supports two memory modules for a total of 4 memory module slots on the system board. Up to four 16GB Registered small outline DIMM modules (SODIMM) are supported, for a maximum of 64GB.
A number of expansion card I/O slot options can be found on the EdgeLine Platforms. Optional network connections can support connection speeds of 1GbE using a standard integrated RJ-45 port or 10GbE with small form factor pluggable (SFP+) ports using an expansion card in the host chassis. Additional USB ports are also found on the various chassis.
Surprisingly, this small 6” x 8” cartridge has HPE’s integrated Lights out management module (iLO) for local and remote management of the system.
The HPE ProLiant m710x is a very compact server node with surprising performance delivered by the integrated Xeon processor, DDR4 memory modules, and up to five M.2 storage devices. HPE presents this system as the industries first “Converged Edge System” converging compute, storage, data capture, control and enterprise -class systems with device management built to thrive in extreme environments.
