The HPE ProLiant BL680c Gen7 is a four-socket, full-height, double-wide server blade designed for HPE's BladeSystem c3000 and c7000 enclosures. This blade is more than a match for demanding workloads and is targeted for enterprise data center applications.
This server may be a few generations removed at this point, but just a few short years back it was the top of the line four-socket workhorse blade server. It still offers very impressive performance with support for Intel Xeon processors and 64 memory modules. In fact, this was the first blade server to support up to 2TB of memory! Networking is equally impressive with six embedded FlexFabric adapters supporting autosensing 10GbE and 1GbE. HPE's BladeSystem enclosures offer backwards and forwards compatibility with all generations of compatible blade servers supported. HPE's BladeSystem c7000 will hold a maximum of eight HPE BL680c Gen7 blades, while the c3000 can handle up to four BL680c blades.

Intel's 7500 chipset supports a maximum of four Intel Xeon E7-4800 family processors or the E7-8867L processor with up to 10 cores. Administrators can install two, three or four processors, depending on business needs. All processors support both Hyper-Threading and Turbo Boost Technology except the E7-4807 processor.
With all four processors installed, a maximum of 64 memory modules can be installed for an impressive 2TB of memory using 32GB RDIMMs. Only DDR3 registered (RDIMM) memory modules are supported on the BL680c Gen7 and depending on your choice of processor, memory, and memory configuration, the system will run at a maximum of 1066MHz.
There are four hot plug SAS/SATA/SSD drive bays on the front of the blade that will support up to 4.8TB using four 1.2TB SAS drives—drive types cannot be mixed. An integrated HP Smart Array P410i controller provides internal storage support and limited RAID. Optional Smart Array RAID mezzanine controllers are available to support external storage and are supported with Battery-Backed Write Cache (BBWC) or Flash-Backed Write Cache (FBWC). There are a total of four battery cache options for the P410i controller and for use with other Smart Array RAID controllers.
Up to seven PCIe mezzanine cards are supported and can be used for Quad Data Rate (QDR) InfiniBand (IB), Fibre Channel, FlexFabric, and Smart Array RAID controllers. The system also has integrated graphics support for resolutions up to 1280 x 1024.
HP offers a range of management tools at the chassis, enclosure, and data center level, to ensure you get the most out of your investment. As with all ProLiant servers, insight management software, iLO 3.0, and several other options are included with the purchase. HP OneView for converged infrastructure management, combines server, storage, and networking into an easy to read dashboard and can also help manage third-party appliances in the data center through a single interface.
