The HPE ProLiant DL345 Gen10 Plus Server takes advantage of AMD EPYC processors massive core count with support for just a single CPU. With up to 64 cores to work with, this system can deliver up to 4TB of memory and flexible storage options for both SFF and LFF drive configurations, including support for up to 26x SAS/SATA drive bays, plus support for NVMe storage options.
Designed for hybrid cloud and data intensive workloads, the HPE ProLiant DL345 Gen10 Plus Server offers dense storage with just a single AMD EPYC 7003 or 7002 series CPU. Flexible storage options include SAS, SATA, or NVMe for a tiered storage, plus support for both LFF and SFF HDDs and SSDs. It’s an ideal platform for applications delivering structured and/or unstructured database management. With only 1x socket it also delivers a better ROI on application or cloud applications that may be based on a per-socket licensing fee structure. While standard fans are included with this system, some configurations may require maximum performance fan kits.
Offering up to 256MB of L3 cache, depending on processor and model, AMD’s EPYC 3rd generation Milan processors enable more data to be stored closer to the CPU for better efficiency and speed. Second generation AMD EPYC Rome processors are also supported. Regardless of generation, a processor with 8 to 64 physical cores and 16 to 128 virtual threads is supported. AMD EPYC processors also support PCIe 4.0 for improved throughput and reduced latency, plus 8x memory channels.
As mentioned earlier, there are several storage options supporting SAS, SATA or NVMe storage devices for large form factor (LFF) and small form factor (SFF) drive bays. An 8-bay SFF chassis option can support either SAS, SATA, or NVMe storage devices. The 24-bay version supports SAS, SATA and NVMe drive types, with an option to install a rear drive cage supporting 2x more SFF drive slots for up to 26x drive bays. 8x and 12x bay chassis supporting LFF 3.5-inch drives are also available. Depending on the storage configurations and storage drive type, maximum performance fans may be required. SAS implementations will require a discrete HPE Smart Array controller or Tri-Mode controller, which can support NVMe U.3, and U.2 plus SAS and SATA drive formats. However, Tri-Mode storage controllers are only compatible with the 3rd generation AMD EPYC processors.
With 8x memory channels and 16x memory module slots, the HPE DL345 Gen10 Plus Server can support up to 4TB of DDR4 ECC memory, which is the limit for the 3rd gen EPYC processor. With 3rd generation CPUs, two modules per memory channel will provide memory speeds of up to 3200MT/s. However, 2nd generation Rome CPUs will provide a maximum memory speed of only 2933MT/s with two modules per memory channel. Both Load-Reduced (LRDIMM) and Registered (RDIMM) memory modules are supported with LRDIMMs providing the highest memory capacity.
A maximum of 4x expansion slots are provided on the HPE DL345 Gen10 Plus, with two in the Primary riser and 2x more in the Secondary riser. Both risers have options for supporting x8 and x16 PCIe links, and all slots are PCIe 4.0 offering twice the throughput compared to PCIe 3.0. These slots can be used to house storage controllers, high-performance I/O controllers, an HPE NVMe PCIe OS boot device or up to 3x GPUs. Either 3x half-height, half-length Xilinx Alveo U50 cards or the full-height, full-length PCIe based Nvidia A10 24G GPU. However, there are limitations on drive quantities and types of drives supported depending on how many GPUs are installed. The system can also be fitted with an OCP 3.0 adapter card offering several different port options and connection speeds that won’t impact the limited PCIe slots available.
For remote management of the system, HPE provides their integrated Lights-Out (iLO) Standard with intelligent provisioning. iLO can provide server health status, inventory, and can be configured to send alerts to quickly resolve issues. It’s also used for both at-chassis and remote management of the system. For software-defined infrastructures there’s HPE OneView Standard, which is also provided by download. Advanced versions of both will require a licensing fee.
