It should be noted, that the 5th generation Intel Xeon Scalable processors are not supported on the DL380 Gen11 system board that is compatible with 4th generation Intel Xeon Scalable processors. A system board that supports the latest firmware is required for use with 5th generation Intel Xeon Scalable processors. With either generation, CPUs are available with a several different suffixes targeted at specific workloads and are limited to a Thermal Design Power (TDP)rating of 350W. Memory capacity and speed is dependent on a number of factors including; CPU generation, CPU category, memory modules, and memory configuration. CPU categories include Platinum, Gold, Silver and Bronze. The HPE DL380 Gen11 server supports a number of storage options with support for 3.5-inch and 2.5-inch storage bays in front and optional storage cages for the rear of the chassis.
Basic Chassis Types with Optional Storage Conditions
To boot the system, HPE offers an optional boot device accessible from the rear of the platform, it features 2x hot-plug M.2 NVMe drives that are automatically configured in a RAID1 configuration for data mirroring to enhance resiliency. For expansion, the system features up to 8x PCIe 5.0 slots and 2x OCP mezzanine card slots. Intel Virtual RAID on CPU or VROC is supported offing hybrid RAID specifically for SSD storage devices. Embedded network ports are not included with any chassis option and Built-to-Order (BTO) configurations will come with a choice of OCP networking card or stand-up networking card.
Additional HPE Smart Array storage controllers and Network Interface Controllers (NICs) can be installed. The system can also be outfitted with 3x double-wide GPUs or up to 8x single-wide GPUs. However, when installing GPUs there are many restrictions that apply and additional parts are required in certain cases. Power Supply Unit (PSU) options include hot-plug, 1+1 redundant 800W, 1000W or 1600W flexible slot power supplies.
The system comes with a dedicated integrated Lights Out 6.0 (iLO 6) Management port. For a multi-generational management tool for monitoring and management, HPE OneView Standard is available. Both can be upgraded to Advanced versions, which includes access to the full integrated remote management console, virtual keyboard, video, mouse (KVM), and a number of other utilities.
