In this case the “a” on the name indicates the HPE ProLiant DL380a Gen11 Server is optimized for accelerators and provides the cooling capacity with 6x dual-rotor hot-plug fans to deliver continuous performance under load. With 24x DDR5 memory module slots, there are 12x memory slots per CPU. The CPUs feature 8-memory channel architecture spread out between the 12x memory module slots. As a result, 4x of the memory channels support two DIMM slots each, with the remaining 4x memory module slots each on their own memory channel. Memory will run at up to 4400MHz with all 24x slots occupied or at up to 4800MHz with 16x memory modules installed.
Storage options include either 8x SFF NVMe or 8x EDSFF SSDs. An optional NVMe boot device supports two 480GB M.2 drives in a RAID 1 configuration to support the OS and boot the system. The system has 4x PCIe 5.0 slots supported in two risers at the back of the chassis, both full-height and full-length. The rear PCIe slots can be used to support a balanced I/O configuration of network controllers. There are also 2x OCP mezzanine slots on the back of the system, each of which have a x8 PCIe 5.0 interface. 4x to 8x GPUs are housed in the front of the system with either 2x double wide or four single-wide GPUs mounted in GPU riser cages to either side of the storage cage in the front middle of the chassis. Optional power supply configurations include either a dual 1+1 redundant configuration or a 4x hot-plug option with 2+2 redundancy.
