With a 2U chassis height, the HPE ProLiant DL385 Gen10 Plus V2 Server supports up to 36x 2.5-inch drives or up to 20x 3.5-inch drives, plus optional mid-tray and rear drive cages. This is a high-density platform that also supports dual AMD EPYC 7003 CPUs, multiple graphic accelerators, and up to 8TB of DDR4 ECC memory.
The HPE ProLiant DL385 Gen10 Plus V2 Server offers versatility to support a number of high-performance computing workloads including, Machine Learning, Deep Learning, and Big Data Analytics. Dual AMD EPYC 7003 series CPUs provide the compute with 16 to 128 physical cores and 32 to 256 virtual threads with both processors installed. At full capacity it will support up to 8TB of memory. With up to 8x expansion slots, this system also offers support for high-performance I/O, plus graphic accelerators and advanced storage RAID solutions. Smart Array controllers for gen10 servers and the latest Tri-Mode controllers offer support for SAS, SATA, and NVMe storage options.
Each of the 3rd generation AMD EPYC Milan series processors support 8 to 64 physical cores and 16 to 128 virtual threads providing significantly more compute performance compared to the previous generation ROME CPUs. PCIe 4.0 also delivers twice the throughput compared to PCIe 3.0, and with 128 PCIe lanes to work with, there are a lot of options for expansion. With the 3rd generation CPUs, memory capacity has also been increased, now supporting up to 4TB per socket in 8x memory channels.
Only DDR4 ECC memory modules are supported on the HPE ProLiant DL385 Gen10 Plus V2 Server. It boasts 16x memory module slots per socket for 32x active slots with both processors installed. Either Registered (RDIMM) or Load-Reduced (LRDIMM) memory modules are supported. A capacity of 8TB can be attained using 32x 256GB Load-Reduced memory modules but will only support memory speeds of 2933MT/s. Memory speeds of 3200MT/s are permitted with either 1x LRDIMM per memory channels or 1x or 2x memory modules per channel using RDIMMs.
The basic configurations include 8x to 24-bay small form factor (SFF) SAS/SATA chassis with an option for NVMe U.2 and U.3 drive formats. Up to 8x SFF drives are also supported in a mid-tray carrier and either 2x or 4x more SFF drives can be mounted in drive cages in back for up to 36x drives total. Either 8x to 12x LFF drive chassis can also be outfitted with an additional mid-tray and rear drive cage each of which can house 4x LFF drives. Certain configurations will require the addition of a Max Performance fan kit. Smart Array storage controllers can be used for support of SAS drives and will offer more control for SATA implementations as well. Tri-Mode controllers offer support for all drive formats, including NVMe, but can only be used with 3rd generation AMD EPYC processors.
A total of 8x expansion slots are supported on this platform and are housed in the Primary, Secondary, and Tertiary risers. 2x to 3x options are available for each riser, each of which offers different slot PCIe bus options, and in some cases numbers of available slots depending on the use scenario and riser option chosen. All slots are PCIe 4.0 for twice the throughput compared to the previous version PCIe 3.0. With up to 128 PCIe lanes supported, there are significant expansion options to choose from. Both double-wide and single wide GPUs from Nvidia and AMD are supported on this chassis in various quantities depending on the risers utilized and the specific GPUs to be installed. Options include up to 3x double-wide GPUs and 6x single-width GPUs but refer to QuickSpecs for specific configurations and GPUs. Additional expansion options include high-performance I/O cards, Smart Array and Tri-Mode HBA/RAID controllers, and NVMe storage devices, one of which can be used to boot the system.
HPE’s embedded management option comes in the form of the Integrated Lights-Out (iLO) Standard. ILO is also available in Advanced and Advanced Premium Security Edition each of which provide at-chassis and remote management of the server from anywhere a standard browser and Internet connection are available. Ideal for inventory, troubleshooting, remote power on/off, plus a variety of automated tasks, it can also be configured to send alerts. Also available, HPE OneView is designed to help manage a software-defined infrastructure and provides more features for managing your network. All advanced versions require licenses for operation.
