The StoreOnce 3540 is designed for mid-range and enterprise data center deployments. It offers backup speeds of up to 12.7 TB/hr and can scale from 15.5TB to 31.5TB of usable space. However it should be noted that the usable space is dependent on a variety of factors including; configuration, data set type, number of data streams, and compressional levels. HPE's powerful deduplicating technology reduces the amount of disk space required for backup by a factor of 20 without impacting backup performance. This is a scale-out solution designed to work in conjunction with other scale-out solution architectures and enables Administrators to protect large amounts of data within relatively short backup windows. The system is designed for easy integration with your existing network and is supported by all leading backup applications negating the need to install additional software. This system is ideal for remote offices and can support up to 24 remote and branch offices on a single platform.
Performance on this system is a relative term. The true power of the StoreOnce appliance is its ability to deduplicate data resulting in up to 20 times the actual storage capacity on the system.
There are four DIMM slots on the system board total supporting 2GB and 4GB unbuffered (UDIMM) memory modules. With all four memory slots loaded with 4GB memory modules that's 16GB total. Depending on your choice of processor memory speeds will run at 1333MHz or 1066MHz.
The 3540 supports features 12 front mounted hard drives with either 12x 2TB SAS drives for 24TB or 12x 4TB SAS drives for 48TB and 100% capacity with an additional license. With a 24TB capacity there is 15.5TB of usable disk space. With the 48TB version that will scale the usable capacity to 31.5TB. Data retention with deduplication on the 24TB version supports up to 282TB, while the 48TB version provides 573TB.
The StoreOnce 3540 supports four PCIe slots for optional hardware including 10GbE SFP and 10GbE-T Network cards, or an 8Gb Fibre Channel card. A maximum of four are supported.
The management console of the system is comprised of the StoreOnce System graphics User Interface (GUI) and the Command Line Interface (CLI) with some features only accessible from the CLI. System resource monitoring, supported on the StoreOnce software version 3.14, provides access to four main system resource reports: CPU/Memory utilization, Disk utilization, Network utilization, and Fibre Channel utilization.
iLO is integrated on the system and provides remote management features for the appliance as well as basic system status.
HPE StoreOnce Replication – HPE StoreOnce Replication software is a bandwidth limiting feature designed to make data replication more network efficient. Without Replication bandwidth limiting, other network activities may not have enough bandwidth to function effectively. This is offered as a standalone license or as part of the HPE StoreOnce Catalyst license. With a standalone Replication solution, the license is tied to the number of remote targets supported, which in the case of the 3540 system is 24.
HPE StoreOnce Catalyst – Requires a license for each installation on a StoreOnce appliance and provides information on the implementation and verification of the backup and remote copy features.
HPE StoreOnce Enterprise Manager - StoreOnce Enterprise Manager is used for larger installations and provides a centralized management console to analyze up to 400 physical and virtual StoreOnce appliances across many remote sites.
HPE StoreOnce Security Pack – A Security Pack license is required for each StoreOnce appliance, and delivers Data at Rest and Data in Flight encryption and secure Data Shredding features to ensure the privacy and security of your data.
