HPE’s Synergy 660 Gen9 Compute Module is a full-height, general purpose server blade designed for the HPE Synergy 12000 Frame. At 10U in height, the Synergy Frame 12000 can support up to 12x half-height modules, or 6x full-height compute modules. The HPE 660 Gen9, can be outfitted with four Intel Xeon E5-4600 v3 or v4 processors and up to 6TB of memory. Storage is provided by either 4x SFF or 8x M.2 uFF Drives.
Outfitted with Intel Xeon Scalable processors, the HPE Synergy 660 Gen9 Compute Module delivers a 25% performance increase over the previous generation platform. HPE’s Synergy 12000 Frame has a composable infrastructure powered by HPE’s OneView management software. Management is provided at the enclosure level through the 12000 Frame chassis. OneView enables the hardware components of compute, memory, and storage to be pooled together and allocated as virtual assets to support a variety of different workloads and applications, extremely fast. In addition to supporting 6x full-height compute modules, the Synergy 12000 Frame can also support 12x half-height, and combinations with half-height double-width storage modules, like the Synergy D3940 Storage Module.
2x to 4x Intel Xeon E5-4600 v3 or v4 processors can be installed on the HPE 660 Gen9 compute module, supported by the C610 chipset. CPUs supported on this system provide 8x to 22x cores per socket for up to 88x physical cores and 176 virtual threads with 4x CPUs. Each CPU supports 4x memory channels.
Each of the sockets has 12x memory module slots for 48x active slots with all 4x CPUS installed. Depending on the choice of CPU, memory module, and memory configuration, memory will run at speeds of 1866MHz, 2133MHz, or 2400MHz. Registered DIMMs (RDIMM), and Load-Reduced DIMMS (LRDIMM) memory modules are supported on this system with RDIMMs providing a maximum capacity of up to 1.5TB, while LRDIMM modules will provide up to 6TB at full capacity. With 4x memory channels, up to 3x DIMMs can be installed per memory channel.
Storage on the front of the HPE 660 Gen9 includes either 4x small form factor (SFF) SAS, SATA or NVMe drives or 8x M.2 uFF SATA SSDs with 2x M.2 drives per drive tray. There is also a Micro Secure Digital High Capacity (Micro SDHC) card slot, plus 1x internal and 1x external USB 3.0 ports intended for an integrated hypervisor virtualization environment.
6x I/O expansion mezzanine connectors are available with all 4x CPUs installed. With only 2 CPUS installed mezzanine connectors 2 and 5 are not available. All mezzanine expansion slots on the system board feature PCIe 3.0 connectivity. Mezzanine options include dual 10/20Gb ports, dual port 16Gb fibre channel HBA for storage area network (SAN) connectivity or 2GB flash-backed write cache (FBWC) adapter for direct attached storage.
Management is provided at the enclosure level through the HPE Synergy 12000 Frame. The Frame enclosure features two Synergy Composer modules for redundancy that support HPE’s OneView management software. OneView leverages the integrated Lights Out (iLO) module in each of the compute modules allowing for a unified management structure at chassis and remotely.
As part of a composable infrastructure, the HPE Synergy 660 Gen9 Compute Module provides a quick way to add compute capacity to the network on the fly. Featuring Intel Xeon E5-4600 v4 compute modules, this system can support up to 6TB of memory. Up to 6x of these full-height compute modules can be installed in the Synergy 12000 Frame with options for additional storage provided by the Synergy D3940 Storage Module.
