Designed to provide support to a diverse range of workloads, the Intel Server System M50CYP1UR204 delivers dual socket performance with 3rd generation Intel Xeon Scalable processors. it’s designed for applications in collaboration, database, storage ecommerce, analytics, use as a web server and more. This is a highly flexible platform and features up to 12TB of memory in a 1U chassis with 4x hybrid storage bays up front.

Performance

3rd generation Intel Xeon Scalable processors support 8x to 40x physical cores and 16x to 80 virtual threads, each. They also provide PCIe 4.0, which is a double the performance of PCIe 3.0 featured on the previous generation CPUs. There are also more PCIe lanes at 64x compared to only 48x on 1st and 2nd generation Intel Xeon Scalable processors. This system will support 1x or 2x 3rd generation processors with each processor also providing improved memory support with 8-channel architecture. The CPUs on this system have a supported thermal design power (TDP) of 205W which includes most CPUs except those ending in H, L, or Q. Single-socket optimized CPUs are not supported on this chassis.

Memory

With 8-channel memory architecture and 16x slots for each of the 2x processors, the Intel Server System M50CYP1UR204 can support 2x memory modules per slot for a total of 32x active memory module slots with both processors installed. Memory speed is dependent on not only the CPU SKU but also the installed memory and configuration with the system defaulting to the slowest performer. DDR4 Load-Reduced, (LRDIMM), Registered (RDIMM), and 3DS RDIMM and LRDIMM memory modules are supported on this system. Intel Optane Persistent Memory Series 200 modules (PMem series 200) are also supported and provide the highest memory capacity at up to 12TB when paired with DDR4 memory modules. PMem modules can help boost the performance of data-intensive applications, such as in-memory analytics, database, content delivery and high-performance computing, to name a few. PMem series 100 memory modules are not supported.

Storage

Storage on the front of the system is limited to 4x bays that can be outfitted with SAS, SATA or NVMe storage options. Two slots on the system board provide support for 1x or 2x M.2 SATA3 or NVMe SSDs that can be used in a bootable RAID format for redundancy.

Expansion

There are three risers. Riser 3 is for NVMe support only. Riser slots 1 and 2 can support up to 3x expansion cards between the two. in addition, an open compute project 3.0 (OCP 3.0) mezzanine card can be installed in a dedicated slot at the back of the chassis and provides additional networks port connections and link speeds. NVMe drives up front are supported using add-in cards supported in the risers. Virtual RAID on CPU is also supported along with the integrated volume management device, which is part of the CPU architecture. It provides RAID options for NVMe drives formats using a standard, premium or Intel SSD only VROC key. The server board also feature dual x4 PCIe 4.0 slots for support of M.2 SATA3 or NVMe SSD storage devices that can be configured into a bootable RAID volume using an optional VROC 7.5 key.

Management

A remote management RJ45 port on the back of the Intel M50CYP1UR204 server provides access to the integrated baseboard management controller (BMC) enabled through the ASPEED AST2500 chip. The system is intelligent platform management interface 2.0 and Redfish API compliant. Intel Data Center Manager (Intel DCM) is a suite of software tools to help manage the system. There are also several LED indicators on the system board for light-guided diagnostics to help troubleshoot various system-level and board-level faults. Various other management features are provided by the OS and other compatible utilities.
