The 2U rugged edge system can be mounted on a 2-post or 4-post rack because of its short depth of 17.8 inches. Under the hood, the ThinkEdge SE455 V3 Edge Server has 6x DDR5 DIMM slots, supported by the 6-channel memory architecture of the AMD EPYC 8004-series processors. AT capacity, it can provide up to 768GB of memory using 128GB RDIMMs in all slots, with memory speeds of up to 4800MT/s.
The front of the chassis features 6x PCIe slots (2x Gen5 x16, 4x Gen4 x8) in two risers supporting full-height adapters, plus an additional OCP 3.0 PCIe 5.0 x16 adapter slot. Next to these slots there are 4x 2.5-inch NVMe hot-swap drive bays. Inside the server are 4x 2.5-inch NVMe non-hot-swap drive bays and 2x M.2 boot drives with a vertical mount. The ThinkEdge SE455 V3 can accommodate up to 6x single-width GPUs or 2x double-width GPUs. The following GPUs are supported:
- 6x half-length NVIDIA A2 16GB PCIe Gen4 Passive GPU
- 6x half-length NVIDIA L4 24GB PCIe Gen4 Passive GPU
- 2x full-length NVIDIA L40 48GB PCIe Gen4 Passive GPU
- 2x full-length NVIDIA L40S 48GB PCIe Gen4 Passive GPU
The SE455 V3 meets strict NEBS Level 3 standards, operating even if hit by 40G of shock (Mil Spec 810G) and 1.31 Grms of vibration. It also passes tests such as the NEBS GR-63-CORE issue 5, 4.4.1 Earthquake Environment and Criteria and survive drop tests documented in NEBS GR-63-CORE issue 5, 4.3.2 Unpackaged equipment shock criteria. The system also has dedicated grounding points, ready to accept a grounding cable. The SE455 V3 can also be fitted with a dust filter meeting MERV 4 standards, ensuring the system can keep the dust out.
The server includes an XClarity Controller 2 (XCC2) for monitoring system availability. An optional upgrade to XCC Platinum enables advanced capabilities, including remote keyboard-video-mouse (KVM) control, remote media mounting, FIPS 140-3 security compliance, enhanced support for NIST SP 800-193, boot capture, power capping, and a range of additional management and security enhancements.
