The Lenovo ThinkServer RD330 server is a highly efficient, 1U platform with dual-processor performance ideal for SMB database applications. The server’s new spread-core micro-architecture to reduce thermal output, along with its 80+ gold power supply options, make this server up to 45% more efficient than Lenovo’s previous generations of servers. Support for up to 12 memory modules provides a generous memory capacity of 192GB with memory speeds of up to 1333 Mhz. Storage capacity is also impressive with support for up to 8TB of data in a large form factor drive configuration. Server deployment is quick and painless with Lenovo’s EasyStartup program which provides a simple, three-step guide to server installation.

Performance

This dual-socket system is powered by Intel’s E5-2400 series processors. Intel’s Hyper-Threading technology increases processor throughput and improves overall performance by allowing multiple threads to run on each processor core. Processors also take advantage of Intel’s QuickPath Interconnect link which allows the processor to access RAM directly to maximize overall performance.

Storage

Both large form factor (LFF) and small form factor (SFF) drives are supported, so administrators can create the perfect environment for their anticipated workload. An SFF drive configuration will support six drives for up to 5.4TB of data using 900GB drives. For data-hungry applications, LFF drive configurations will yield a higher internal storage capacity of 8TB when using four 2TB SATA drives. A ThinkServer RAID 700 adapter includes an Intelligent Battery Backup Unit and supports RAID levels 0, 1, 5, 6, 10, 50, and 60.

Memory

This server has generous memory capacity with support for up to 12 DDR3 DIMM slots to provide a 192GB max memory footprint in a dual-processor configuration. Single processor configurations will support half the amount of DIMM slots. Administrators can choose to configure this system with 2G, 4G, 8G, or 16G memory modules. This server supports unbuffered (UDIMM), registered (RDIMM), and low-voltage registered (LV RDIMM) memory modules, but mixing memory technologies within a single enclosure is not supported. Memory speeds of up to 1333 Mhz can be reached, but this capability is dependent on the processor model and memory type.

Expansion

Two PCIe Gen3 slots are available for expansion, one of which is a low profile slot. The front of the chassis provides two USB 2.0 ports, one VGA port, and an optical drive. At the back of the chassis, there is another VGA port, an additional four USB ports, two Ethernet ports, a dedicated management port, and one serial port. Another four USB ports can be found inside the chassis, as well as a dedicated slot for the optional Trusted Platform Module (TPM).

Management

Administrators can choose between a variety of operating systems, including Windows Server and RedHat Linux. Power consumption control has been simplified with Lenovo’s ThinkServer Smart Grid management technology. Smart Grid provides automated alerts of power changes and allows businesses to save on energy consumption costs through dynamic power controls. Server deployment and installation are made easy with IPMI 2.0-compliant management interfaces that allow this server to be installed with a quick, three-step process.
