For more expansion options, up to 2x PCIe Gen5 x16 low-profile adapter slots are accessible but only without internal storage. The expansion slots are used for NDR InfiniBand (Next Data Rate) with shared I/O and SocketDirect supported. Two onboard 25GbESFP28 LOMs are provided along with a single 1GbE RJ45 port for managing the node. There are also dual RJ45 ports on the SMM management module on the enclosure enabling several enclosures to be daisy-chained together thereby reducing the number of required switches. The enclosure supports N+1 redundancy with either 9x air-cooled PSUs or 3 direct-water-cooled power supplies.

Up to 6x SD665 V3 dual node trays can fit inside a single 6U ThinkSystem DW612S enclosure. The enclosure houses up to 144 processors, 216 TB of DDR5 Memory, and up to 144x PCIe Gen5 x16 adapters on just two data center floor tiles with up to 6x chassis in a conventional 42U rack.

Since the ThinkSystem SD665 V3 server uses Lenovo’s Neptune Direct liquid cooling, heat is removed from the CPUs, memory, I/O, local storage, and voltage regulators using warm water cooling. With warm water cooling, the system can effectively operate at a 45-degree Celsius water temperature and a 30-degree Celsius room air temperature saving dramatically on energy costs compared to an air-cooled system. On the front panel, the chassis includes a KVM breakout connector and External Diagnostics Handset port for local management. Similarly, this machine offers 2x 25GbE SFP28 LOM and 1x 1GbE RJ45. The Lenovo SD665 V3 is enabled with Lenovo HPC & AI Software Stack to support multiple users and scale within a single cluster environment.
