Offering 32x DIMM slots, and 8-channel memory architecture provided by the CPU, the ThinkSystem SR650a V4 delivers up to 8TB of memory. Memory speeds of up to 6400MHz are supported when using 256GB 3D RDIMMs. TruDDR5 Multiplexed Rank DIMMs (MRDIMMs) can also be installed in 16x of the memory module slots and offer speeds of up to 8000MHz. 2x DIMM per channel configurations are not supported with MRDIMMs.
The front panel has options for storage including, 8x 2.5” hot-swap SAS, SATA, or NVMe drive bays or 8x hot-swap E3.S NVMe bays. In addition, this system has 2x M.2 SATA/NVMe slots on the motherboard that can be placed in a RAID 1 configurations for redundancy. To cool the system, there are up to 6 60mm fans. However, Lenovo also offers its Neptune Core, which can remove over 80% of system heat via open-loop liquid cooling, enabling up to 35.9% power savings at the data center level. In back, the system has 2x hot-swap redundant power supplies, with a 80 PLUS Platinum or 80 PLUS Titanium certification. PSUs with 800W, 1300W, 2000W, 2700W or 3200W can be installed depending on the configuration.
Up to 14x full-height PCIe Gen5 slots are supported on the SR650a V4, plus 2x OCP 3.0 slots with a PCIe 5.0 x16 or x8 connection. Lenovo uses the XClarity Controller to manage the server enabling deployment, monitoring, and maintenance. XClarity provides a centralized, intuitive interface for managing hardware resources, automating tasks, and reducing downtime. Administrators can oversee system health, performance, and firmware updates to ensure uptime and simplified operations.
