Administrators can choose from several storage configurations. In total, the system can house up to 56x drive bays. The front panel on the ThinkSystem SR860 V4 server supports either or 32x E3.S 1T bays plus 24x 2.5-inch drives, or 48x 2.5-inch drive bays. The system can also be outfitted with up to 24x direct connect NVMe drives. An additional 2x M.2 drivescan be installed on the system board to boot the OS. Compute Express Link memory, CXL 2.0 memory in a E3.S 2T form factor can also be installed, offering expanded memory, beyond that which can be installed in the memory module slots with up to 16x CXL DIMMs.
For expansion, the rear of the system features up to 18x PCIe slots, with 16x Gen5 plus 2x Gen4 slots. Another option provides up to 18x PCIe Gen4 expansion slots. Users can access up to 4x double-wide 400W GPUs or 8x single-wide 75W GPUs on the rear of the chassis. GPU slots are in Riser 1 and Riser 3. To cool the system’s components, the SR860 V4 server features optional direct-water cooling (DWC) capability with the Lenovo Processor Neptune Core Liquid Cooling Module. Up to 4x Platinum or Titanium CRPS Premium hot-swap power supplies are installed offering 1300W, 2000W, 2700W, or 3200W providing N+N redundancy.
For management, the chassis offers a dedicated port on the front panel to connect an optional external diagnostics handset with an LCD display for a variety of system status functions. Software like the Lenovo XClarity Controller (XCC) is also available. The embedded management engine in ThinkSystem servers is designed to standardize, simplify, and automate foundation server management tasks. It monitors system vital signs like temperature, voltage and resource utilization, while automating configuration tasks like network settings and RAID configurations.
