Part of Supermicro’s TwinPro family of servers, the Supermicro 2029TP-HTR delivers up to 224 cores using top-of-the-line Intel Xeon Scalable processors in all four nodes. It should be noted that there are two other chassis in this family, Supermicro SuperServer 2029TP-HC0R and Supermicro SuperServer 2029TP-HC1R, both of which support SATA and SAS drives. The system is powered by redundant 2200W Titanium Level PSUs.
Both first- and second-generation Intel Xeon Scalable processors are supported on the server nodes. First generation Scalable processors do not offer the same memory capacity or top memory speed compared to 2nd generation processors and will only support 768GB for standard processors, or up to 1.5TB using those with an “M” suffix. Second generation processors provide up to 1TB of memory standard support, up to 2TB with an “M” suffix, and up to 4.5TB using an “L” suffix. Each processor supports six memory channels in a 2+1+1 configuration with 8 memory module slots per processor. Memory speed is dependent on processors, memory configuration, and memory speed.
The system will support up to 4TB of DDR4 memory, either 3DS Registered or Load-Reduced, using second generation Intel Xeon Scalable processors. Optane memory modules are also only compatible with the second-generation processors. You can populate a maximum of two Intel Optane memory modules (DCPMM) per CPU for four total per compute module when paired with either Registered or Load Reduced memory modules.
A row of 24x 2.5-inch storage bays line the front of the system and are automatically distributed between the four server nodes. You can install either an M.2 add-on card module or use one or two Disk on Module, or DOMs, to support the OS with redundancy. The M.2 module will support either two SATA M.2 or 1 NVME M.2 with a SATA M.2 drive. Although, none are active with a single processor. The integrated storage controller will allocate 6x drives for each of the four server nodes and supports only SATA III drives.
In addition to the dedicated slots for the DOMs and the M.2 add-on card, there are two PCIe 3.0 slots plus a dedicated slot for a Supermicro Input/Output Module (SIOM) card. The SIOM card comes in several options allowing you to choose the network connection best suited for your workload performance. The other PCIe slots can be used to support additional network cards and external HD/RAID controllers.
A dedicated Intelligent Platform Management Interface port is located on the back of the system and provides access to the integrated Base Management Controller (BMC) which is built on the Aspeed AST2500 management controller. Also supported is Supermicro’s SuperDoctor 5.0 to monitor the health and availability of target node systems in the data center and can be configured to provide administrator alerts.
