Supermicro A+ Server 1124US-TNR - System Overview

Description

Outfitted with dual AMD EPYC 7003 or 7002 series processors, the Supermicro A+ Server 1124US-TNR is built for virtualization, cloud computing, and as a high-end enterprise server can support a number of other business-critical workloads. At full capacity it will provide up to 8TB of memory and supports a hot-swap hybrid backplane for flexible storage options.

* This system is only offered fully configured with a minimum of two CPUs, four DIMMs, and one storage drive. For optimal performance, 16x DIMMs and at least 24/32 cores per CPU is recommended.

Performance

The Server 1124US-TNR is configured with dual AMD EPYC 7003 or 7002 series processors. Each CPU has a maximum thermal design point (TDP) of up to 280W, enabling support for CPUs with up to 64 cores each, or 128 cores total with two CPUs. AMD EPYC 7003 series CPUs with AMD 3D V-Cache Technology are also compatible with the server but require BIOS version 2.3 or newer. CPUs with 3D V-Cache technology offer three times the L3 cache at up to 768MB compared to only 256MB on standard 3rd gen CPUs. Supported CPUs have 8x memory channel architecture for a large memory footprint.

Memory

Each CPU on the Supermicro A+ 1124US-TNR supports 8x memory channels and 16x memory module slots for a total of 32x DIMM slots with both processors installed. At full capacity using 256GB memory modules in all slots, the system can provide up to 8TB of memory. Only Registered (RDIMM) ECC DDR4 memory modules are supported and feature a top operating speed of up to 3200MHz.

Storage

As its standard storage configuration, the 1124US-TNR server has 12x hot-swap 2.5” U.2 NVMe storage devices. These drives are emphasized by yellow tabs. The server also supports 12x SATA3 HDD or 12x SAS3 drive bays with an optional SAS kit. Two SATA DOM connectors on the system board provide additional options to boot the system.

Expansion

Fully configured, the Supermicro Server 1124US-TNR will provide 4x PCIe 4.0 slots. There are 2x PCI-E 4.0 x16 full-height, half-length, 9.5"L slots, 1x PCI-E 4.0 x16 low-profile slot, and 1x PCI-E 4.0 x16 internal proprietary low-profile slot. An Ultra Riser Card must be bundled in order to enable the internal proprietary slot. Similarly, both CPUs need to be installed for full access to PCIe slots and onboard controllers. For network communications, the system has a number of flexible options to choose from.

Management

There is an RJ45 dedicated IPMI LAN port on the back of the chassis to provide access to the integrated platform management interface (IPMI). In addition to this program, the server supports several other software utilities like Redfish API, NMI, SSM, SPM, SUM, and SuperDoctor 5 to enable Administrators to automate functions and minimize maintenance tasks. With a web-based interface and real-time monitoring of the health and availability of data center assets, the proprietary SuperDoctor 5 (SD5) may be set up to send administrators alerts in case of hardware fails. An Out-Of-Band (OOB) license key is included for OOB BIOS management.

Summary

This device is an ideal addition to supporting high-performance computing, virtualization, and cloud computing applications. At 1U, the Supermicro A+ Server 1124US-TNR system supports dual 2nd or 3rd generation AMD EPYC 7003 CPUs, including those with AMD 3D V-Cache Technology. The hybrid storage backplane supports flexible storage options for NVMe, SAS and SATA with 12x drive bays on the front panel. With both processors installed, the 32x memory module slots can provide up to 8TB of memory.
