With support for two AMD EPYC processors from the first- or second-generation, administrators have the flexibility to choose between 32 cores or 64 cores. The processors unleash the powerful features of the Supermicro A+ Server 2023US-TR4 including 32x memory module slots that can support up to 8TB of memory. The system also supports a total of 8x PCIe 3.0 expansion slots in a 2U chassis.

*The Supermicro A+ Server 2023US-TR4 is only sold as a completely assembled system with a minimal configuration including 2x CPUs, 4X DIMMs, and 1x HDD/SSD.

Performance

The Supermicro 2023US-TR4 chassis is fueled by two AMD EPYC 7001 or 7002 series processors with a thermal design point (TDP) of up to 280W. The 7001 series offers 32 cores and up to 4TB of registered (RDIMM) memory, while 7002 series CPUs offer 64 cores for up to 8TB of RDIMM memory. In order to have full access to PCIe slots and onboard controllers, both CPUs must be installed.

Memory

There is a total of 16x memory module slots per processor, for a total of 32x DIMMs with both processors installed. Depending on the CPU, memory speeds and capacity differ. When AMD EPYC 7001 series CPUs are installed, up to 4TB of memory can be installed with speeds of up to 2666MHz. On the other hand, 7002 CPUs double the memory capacity to up to 8TB with speeds of up to 3200MHz. The memory supports error correction code to correct single-bit errors and detect double-bit errors.

Storage

Supermicro A+ 2023US-TR4 DIMM Slots

There are several storage configuration options on the 2023US-TR4 platform. The 12x hot-swap 3.5-inch drive bays on the front of the system are SATA3 by default, but can be configured to support 8x SAS3 and 4x SAS3/NVMe with an optional SAS add on card (AOC). These drives are housed in tool less drive carriers that make removing them from the chassis a breeze, while also improving air flow and cooling potential.

Expansion

For more storage, a riser card can be installed in one of the PCIe slots to accommodate one or two M.2 solid state drives. PCIe NVMe is supported by one M.2 socket, while SATA is supported by the other. Additionally, there are a variety of PCIe expansion slots on this system. The server has 8x PCIe 3.0 slots including x8 and x16 form factors, full-height, low-profile, and an internal slot. For full access to PCIe slots and onboard controllers, both CPUs need to be installed. There are 4x RJ45 GbE ports on the back of the system, plus a dedicated integrated platform management interface (IPMI) port for system management over a network connection.

Management

The H11 generation motherboard on the A+ 2023US-TR4 system supports IPMI 2.0, which provides access, monitoring, and management through the baseboard management controller (BMC). Other management software programs include Supermicro’s SuperDoctor 5, which functions at-chassis or remotely using a command line or standard browser. The application maintains track of CPU temperature, system voltage, and fan speed among other things. The program can be configured to send an email or alert through Simple Network Management Protocol (SNMP) whenever the system’s health status changes.
