Designed for compute intensive applications, high-performance computing, and other mission critical workloads, the Supermicro BigTwin A+ SuperServer 2124BT-HTR, when outfitted with AMD EPYC 7002/7003 series processors, is also appropriate for data centers plus hyperscale and hyperconverged networks. This is a high-density BigTwin server that delivers up to 4TB of memory in each node for a total of up to 16TB of memory with all nodes at capacity.
*These systems only come with a minimal configuration including 2x CPUs, 8x DIMM modules, 1x HDD/SSD and one Supermicro I/O Mezzanine card per server node.
Each of the 4x hot-swappable server nodes supports dual AMD EPYC 7002/7003 series processors for outstanding performance with up to 64 cores and 128 threads per node. Support of 7003 series AMD EPYC processors will require BIOS version 2.0 or higher. These processors also support PCIe 4.0 plus 8x memory channels per socket. Configurable thermal design point (cTDP) is listed at up to 200W, although a higher cTDP is supported, but only under certain conditions. Dual Titanium level 2200W redundant PSUs power the system.
With eight memory channels per socket, and each CPU in charge of 8x memory modules, each server sled supports 16x memory module sockets total, with a single module in each channel for maximum performance. This system supports up to 4TB of registered (RDIMM) memory modules per server node, operating at speeds of up to 3200MHz.
Twenty-four hot-swap SATA3 drive bays up front are distributed evenly between the servers with each of the four nodes in charge of 6x drive bays. A dedicated slot on the motherboard supports a single SATA M.2 drive for support of the OS. SAS3 drives are supported on the other chassis version in this family, the Supermicro BigTwin A+ SuperServer AS -2124BT-HNTR.
In addition to the single M.2 slot on the system board, each of the server nodes support 2x PCIe Gen 4.0 x16 low profile slots for support of additional I/O cards.
Management of the system is through the dedicated Gb port on the back of each server node. It features integrated platform management interface 2.0 (IPMI 2.0) compliant with a standard baseboard management controller (BMC) compatible with third-party hardware distributors. Supermicro’s proprietary SuperDoctor5 (SD5) provides another layer of features including a graphic user interface (GUI) easily accessible from a standard browser.
At only 2U, the Supermicro BigTwin A+ SuperServer 2124BT-HTR delivers the goods with 4x separate dual-socket server nodes able to support up to 4TB of memory each. With shared power and storage on the main chassis, plus the four dual socket server nodes in a 2U chassis, this system is very dense and adaptable for a number of different workloads.
