With 4x dual socket server nodes and 24x up front storage bays supporting SAS and NVMe storage devices, the Supermicro BigTwin SuperServer 2029BT-HNC0R is an easy fit for hyperscale and hyperconverged networks. Each server also includes a Supermicro I/O module (SIOM) for flexible networking options. With a large memory footprint and storage, this system is also an excellent choice for use in the data center or as an enterprise server for HPC applications.
*This system is only available in a minimal configuration that includes at least 2x CPUs, 2x DIMMs, 1HDD/NVMe drive, and an SIOM card, per node.
While each of the server nodes does support 2x Intel Xeon Scalable processors from the 1st or 2nd generations, those over 200W are only supported under certain configurations. Each processor has 6x memory channels and each node supports 12x memory modules for 2x memory modules per channel.
The system is compatible with 3DS registered (RDIMM), 3DS load reduced (LRDIMM) memory modules, which will provide up to 6TB of memory at capacity. Data centric persistent memory modules (DCPMM) are supported, but only with 2nd generation CPUs.
There are 24x storage bays that support SAS and NVMe drives lining the front of the Supermicro 2029BT-HNC0R. The drives are split evenly between the 4x server nodes with each getting use of either 6x hot-swap SASIII drives or 4x NVMe plus 2x SASIII drives. A single dedicated disk on module (DOM) slot is provided in each node for support of an OS or hypervisor. There are optional add-on cards (AOC) that support either SATA or NVMe M.2 drives and can be installed in one of the 2x x16 low profile PCIe slots. The M.2 drive can be paired in a RAID to support the OS. vROC options are also available for support and RAID or SSD drives including standard, premium, and Intel only.
Along with a dedicated slot for the SIOM flexible networking card there are 2x PCIe 3.0 x16 slots for additional network interface controllers (NICs) or RAID controllers.
This system comes with a several of Supermicro’s management applications including Supermicro Server Manager (SSM), Supermicro Power Manager (SPM) and the Supermicro Update Manager (SUM). The Supermicro Server Manager is the all-in-one management application for monitoring multiple servers in a data center from a single console. The system is also compatible with the Intel Node Manager. Access to the system is provided by the integrated platform management interface 2.0 (IPMI 2.0) and baseboard management controller (BMC) which accesses the ASPEED AST2500 module on the system board for at-chassis and remote management of the system.
