This is a high-density system with 4x dual socket server nodes providing up to 8 CPUs and up to 24TB of memory. The 12x 3.5-inch storage bays on the front of the Supermicro BigTwin SuperServer 6029BT-HNC0R are evenly distributed among the 3x hot-swap server nodes with each in control of 3x drive bays. Both SAS3 and NVMe drives are supported, although mixing of HDD and SSD drive types may require additional hardware. An add-on card supporting dual NVMe or SATA 3 M.2 drives has a dedicated slot on the motherboard adjacent to the memory modules and can be used to host the OS.
Along with the dedicated slots for the M.2 AOC and another for support of the Supermicro I/O Module card, each of the server nodes supports 2x PCIe 3.0 x16 slots. Allocating SAS3 drives in one of the nodes will require a Broadcom LSI 3008 controller in one of those PCIe slots. Additional I/O cards can also be installed for greater network bandwidth.
Management of each server is through the integrated RJ45 port on the back of each node. This provides access to the integrated platform management interface 2.0 (IPMI 2.0) and the ASPEED AST2500 module on the system board for remote and at-chassis management of the system. Several applications like Intel Node Manager, SuperDoctor 5, and Watchdog provide more specific information on status and inventory using a standard web browser.
