Powered by dual 1st or 2nd generation Intel Xeon Scalable processors, the Supermicro FatTwin SuperServer F629P3-RTBN includes 4x server nodes. Each node holds 8x 3.5-inch drive bays. The drive bays can be populated in two different configurations. Either all eight bays outfitted with SATA3 drives or six of them can be used for SATA3 drives while the other two can be NVMe U.2 drives.
Dual 1st or 2nd generation Intel Xeon Scalable processors provide the compute for each node. The Supermicro F629P3-RTBN is compatible with processors with up to 28 cores. Processor choices are limited to 70-165W choices due to thermal constraints. There are extended thermal solutions that can be added on to the system in order to support CPUs with higher thermal design points (TDP) than 165W. Two 1000W or 1200W power supplies are used to power the system in a redundant configuration
Storage solutions on the Supermicro F629P3-RTNB include 8x 3.5-inch drive bays on each node for a total of 32 on the whole chassis. 6x of the drives are on the front of the server node while the other two are in the rear of the chassis. There are two options to configure each node with. All eight drive bays can be populated with SATA3 or SAS3 drives or six drive bays on the front can be populated with SATA3 or SAS3 drives while the two rear bays with NVMe U.2 drives.
On each node there are 12 DIMM slots which support DDR4 Registered or Load Reduced DIMMs. The chosen DIMMs can have speeds of 2933 MHz, 2666 MHz, 2400 MHz, or 2133 MHz. The maximum memory capacity on this system is 3TB. Data centric persistent memory modules are also supported but only when using the 2nd generation Intel Xeon Scalable processors.
There is the opportunity to extend Supermicro SuperServer F629P3-RTBN capabilities through the expansion slots with each node holding 1x PCIe 3.0 x16 (low profile) slot and 1x PCIe 3.0 x16 (Server Input/Output Module) slot. The system features a dedicated IPMI LAN port for management. A Supermicro I/O Module (SIOM) provides network connections to the server in addition to possible add on cards that may be employed. There are two USB3.0 ports and a VGA port on the rear of the system.
Server management is accomplished using software like Intel’s Node Manager, Intelligent Platform Management Interface 2.0, and SuperDoctor 5. SuperDoctor 5 software monitors system health information such as CPU temperature, power consumption, voltage, and fan speed. This information can be sent as email alerts for remote maintenance purposes.
The Supermicro FatTwin SuperServer F629P3-RTBN is four-node system and part of Supermicros FatTwin family of servers, with each node supporting a dual socket configuration. The 2nd or 1st generation Intel Xeon Scalable processors are compatible on this system. Each socket supports 6x DIMM slots for a total of 12x DIMM slots per node. In terms of storage, there are 8x drive bays on per node for up to 32x storage devices.
