Designed for High Performance Computing, Scientific Virtualization, Rendering, and AI/Deep Learning, the Supermicro GPU SuperServer 120GQ-TNRT houses dual 3rd Generation Intel Xeon Scalable Processors in a 1U chassis. There are a total of 16x active DIMM slots on the system board, divided equally between each CPU socket. The front of the system houses 2x 2.5-inch hybrid drive bays along with two more drive bays inside the system, fixed to the system board. This platform can hold 4x Double-Wide, Full-Length GPUs for significant computational acceleration.

Depending on the chosen processors for the Supermicro GPU 120GQ-TNRT Server, each of the 3rd Generation Intel Xeon Scalable can provide between 8 or 40 Physical Cores and 16 to 80 Virtual Threads. Due to the hardware specifications of this system, the Thermal Design Point (TDP) of the CPU is limited to 270W.
Storage options on the Supermicro SuperServer 120GQ-TNRT include 4x hot-swap 2.5-inch NVMe/SATA/SAS drive bays with 2x on the front and 2x fixed internal drive bays. Two bays are dedicated for NVMe drive formats. Additionally, a single M.2 NVMe or M.2 SATA3 drive can be installed as a boot drive.
With both processors installed, there are a total of 16x active DIMM slots are available on the system board of the Supermicro GPU 120GQ-TNRT Server. Both Registered (RDIMM) DIMMs and Load Reduced (LRDIMM) memory modules can be installed. The maximum memory capacity when DRAM is used is 4TB using 16x 256GB modules. It is also possible to install 8x 512GB PMem modules for a total of 4TB, and when paired with standard DRAM up to 6TB is supported.
The system board of the Supermicro 120GQ-TNRT has plenty of opportunity for expansion via the 6x PCIe 4.0 x16 slots. Four of those slots are Full-Height, Full-Length (FHFL) able to support double-width GPUs like the Nvidia A100 or A40 featuring Ampere architecture. The last two slots are low-profile and can be used for add-on I/O cards (AIOC) like network controllers or a SAS RAID controller.
System management is achieved through Supermicro’s management software which includes the Intelligent Platform Management Interface (IPMI) 2.0, Redfish API, SSM, Intel Node Manager, SPM, KVM with dedicated LAN, SUM, NMI, Watch Dog, and SuperDoctor 5.
