Supermicro Storage SuperServer 542B-DE1CR90 - System Overview
The 90-bay Supermicro 542B-DE1CR90 storage server has 3.5” hot-swap drive bays that support both SAS and SATA configurations with 2.5” and 3.5” drive form factors. An internal node tray includes 2x fixed 2.5” PCIe 5.0 x4 NVMe SSD drive bays, while 3x hot-serviceable SAS expanders are positioned down the center of the drive bays. Up to 2TB of RDIMM memory are supported across 16x DIMM slots. The system can achieve speeds of up to 6400MT/s with a 1x DIMM per channel configuration, while installing 2x DIMMs per channel reduces the speed to 5200MT/s.
The motherboard features up to 4x PCIe 5.0 slots, including 1x PCIe 5.0 x8 HHHL and 3x PCIe 5.0 x16 HHHL slots. Additionally, the system offers 2x M.2 PCIe 4.0 x2 NVMe slots (M-key 2280/22110) for more storage or to boot the operating system. To power all of these components, the system is equipped with 2x 2600W redundant (1+1) Titanium Level power supplies. Remote management can be achieved through software tools like Supermicro Server Manager (SSM), Supermicro Thin-Agent Service (TAS), and SuperServer Automation Assistant (SAA). Supermicro Server Manager is a web-based tool that enables centralized management and monitoring of Supermicro servers. It provides real-time system health insights, remote configuration, automated firmware updates, and secure power management, streamlining server administration and improving operational efficiency across the data center.
