NVMe functionality may require additional cabling and/or controllers. For RAID support, the platform is equipped with a Broadcom SAS3916 controller, enabling SAS hardware RAID capabilities. Powered by a single Intel Xeon 6700/6500 series processor, the Supermicro SuperServer 542B-E1CR36H is built to handle demanding enterprise workloads, corporate databases, enterprise applications, and data center environments. It supports either P-core CPUs with up to 86 cores and 172 threads, or E-core CPUs offering up to 144 cores and 144 threads. Both processor types are supported up to 350W TDP with air cooling. Power is supplied by dual 1600W redundant (1+1) Titanium Level (96% efficiency) power supplies.
This 4U server supports up to 2TB of DDR5 ECC RDIMM memory across 8x DIMM slots and 8x memory channels, while achieving speeds up to 6400MT/s when using 256GB memory modules. For expansion, the system includes 6x PCIe 5.0 low-profile slots, supporting a mix of three x8 and three x16 configurations. There are also 2x M.2 PCIe 5.0 x2 NVMe slots, which can be used to boot the system or for additional super-fast storage.
System management is streamlined with Supermicro’s software suite, including SuperCloud Composer, SuperServer Automation Assistant (SAA), Thin-Agent Service (TAS), and Supermicro Server Manager (SSM). Hardware health can be thoroughly assessed using Super Diagnostics Offline (SDO), which supports both CLI and GUI modes. SDO enables diagnostics of key components such as CPU, RAM, BMC, storage, USB, power, backplane, PCIe, VGA, GPU, and networking. When combined with SSM and SMCIPMITool, remote diagnostics and management are also supported.
