Description

Up to 16x memory module slots are available on the Supermicro SuperStorage 6049SP-E1CR90 with support for the standard DDR4 RDIMMs and LRDIMMs, but also Intel Optane Data Centric Persistent Memory Modules (DCPMM). The second-generation CPUs mounted in the dual sockets feature a TDP of up to 205W and each can support up to 28 cores. Because of the assortment of storage options, this server is ideal for government data protection, big data and analytics, Telco, cloud service providers, and more.

Performance

The 4U, 2S SuperStorage 6049SP-E1CR90 supports two Intel Xeon Scalable processors from either the 1st or 2nd generation with up to 28 cores and 56 threads each. CPUs supported on this platform support a TDP of up to 205W. 3x UltraPath Interconnects (UPIs) of up to 10.4 GT/s are available on the second-generation CPUs. 2x 2600W redundant power supplies provide power to the system and offer PMBus to allow power management at a more granular level.

Memory

16x memory module slots can be outfitted with up to 4TB of memory on the Supermicro 6049SP-E1CR90. The Super X11DSC motherboard supports RDIMMs, LRDIMMs, and Intel Optane Data Centric Persistent Memory Modules (DCPMM). The latter can only be installed with 2nd gen Intel Xeon SP. Depending on the DIMMs and CPUs installed, memory speeds will range from 2133MHz to 2933MHz. Memory speed will conform to the slowest supported speed between the CPUs and memory modules.

Storage

There are a variety of storage options on this system, including SAS, SATA, and M.2 NVMe drives. The drives can be managed by dual Broadcom 3616 controllers in IT Mode (Initiator Target) or through a Broadcom 3916 RAID controller. 90x top-loading 3.5” drive bays can support either 3.5” or 2.5” drive form factors. All 90x drive bays are hot-swappable to allow for easy maintenance and upgrades without having to power down the system. The server also has two 2.5” internal fixed slim SATA SSDs plus 2x NVMe M.2 cards with 2280 and 22110 form factors.

Expansion

3x PCIe 3.0 expansion slots on the 6049SP-E1CR90 motherboard provide options for additional network or storage controllers. 2x PCIe 3.0 x16 (HHHL) slots and a single PCIe 3.0 x8 (HHHL) slot are accessed through the back of the 4U chassis. Administrators can also take advantage of 2x PCIe 3.0 M.2 NVMe ports located on the system board to boot the operating system or to add more super fast storage.

Management

The 6049SP-E1CR90 can be managed using the proprietary management software provided by Supermicro or using other third-party software utilities like the Intel Node Manager. SuperDoctor 5 (SD5), is Supermicro’s proprietary web-based tool that can be used to monitor and identify the server's CPU temperature, power consumption, fan speed, and more. The ASPEED AST 2500 Baseboard Management Controller (BMC), enables remote access to the server. Watchdog, IPMI 2.0, NMI, SSM, SPM, SUM, and IPMI 2.0 provide additional tools to manage the system efficiently.
