Designed for Data Centers and High-Performance Computing applications, the Supermicro SuperBlade 420P-1C2N server is a primary component used in Supermicro’s family of 4U, 6U, 7U and 8U enclosures. Outfitted with multiple server nodes, the enclosures offer high density. This server node features dual sockets compatible with the new 3rd Generation Intel Xeon Scalable Processors. There are a total of 16x DIMM slots and 2x 2.5-inch hot-pluggable NVMe/SAS3/SATA3 drive bays. 42U enclosures outfitted with this blade server can potentially house up to 200 CPUs.
The dual CPU sockets on this blade are compatible with 3rd Generation Intel Xeon Scalable Processors with up to 40 physical cores and 80 virtual threads. The thermal solutions on this system allow for a processor with a Thermal Design Point (TDP) of 220W.
Storage solutions on this blade include 2x front mounted, hot-pluggable 2.5-inch NVMe/SAS3/SATA3 drive bays. An optional mezzanine card supports a single NVMe M.2 drive, which can also be used to load the OS on for faster boot times.
Each CPU socket on the Supermicro 420P-1C2N supports 8x DIMM slots for a total of 16x DIMM slots active with both processors. Up to 4TB of 3DS ECC DDR4 3200MHz Registered or Load Reduced DIMMs. This blade also supports Intel Optane Persistent Memory. In addition to 3200MHz DIMM speeds, 2933, 2666, 2400 MHz DIMMs are also possible to populate this system with.
There is a single mezzanine expansion card slot to support one of three optional mezzanine cards. The single slot can be outfitted with only one of the optional mezzanine cards including OmniPath 100Gb/s, add on card with M.2 support, InfiniBand EDR, and a 2-port 25GbE PCIe card.
System management is handled through the integrated platform management interface (IPMI). The IPMI provides remote access and monitoring of the system through the baseboard management controller (BMC). Additional software packages such as IPMIview and IPMItool provide more tools to manage the system. These software packages are designed to provide administrators with a host of functions and monitored data that will allow tabs to be kept on system performance. These software utilities can also be configured to perform automated management activities
The Supermicro SuperBlade 420P-1C2N server is designed for Supermicro’s SuperBlade enclosures and provides high-density compute and storage for Data Centers and the cloud. The blade is installed into enclosures such as SBE-820H, SBE-820C, SBE-820J, and the SBE-820L. This blade also supports dual CPU sockets compatible with the new 3rd Generation Intel Xeon Scalable Processors, plus up to 4TB of memory, and 2x 2.5-inch hot-pluggable drive bays.
