The Supermicro SuperBlade Enclosure SBE-820J has five different chassis to choose from, each of which can support up to 20 half-height, dual-socket blade servers or up to 10x full-height quad-socket blade servers. This is a high-density system designed for enterprise cloud, and high-performance computing applications.
Up to 5x 8U chassis, like the Supermicro SuperBlade Enclosure SBE-820J can be installed in a standard 42U enclosure. At 8U this enclosure will house up to 10 full-height 2-socket or 20 half-height 4-socket SuperBlades. The minimum configuration includes 2x SuperBlade servers with cover panels for all the other server blade slots to maintain thermal integrity. There are several models to choose from each with different PSU conditions.
The enclosure provides the power, cooling, I/O, and management while the SuperBlades provide the compute, memory, and storage. The Supermicro SuperBlades that are compatible with this system are limited to single, dual, and quad Intel Xeon Scalable processors from the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd generations, with a thermal design point (TDP) of up to 270W. SuperBlades using a single AMD EPYC processor are limited to 280W. Depending on your choice of SuperBlade server, M.2 NVME drives and GPUs are supported.
Depending on your choice of enclosure model, there are varying numbers of power supply units (PSUs) and fans. The SuperBlade Enclosure SBE-820J-822 offers up to 8x Titanium-grade PSUs compared to only 4x PSUs on the SuperBlade Enclosure SBE-820J-422 and SBE-820JB-422, which support 4x additional cooling fans in place of the PSUs. The Supermicro SuperBlade Enclosure SBE-820J-622 offers 6x PSUs and 2x cooling fans. Lastly the SBE-820J-820D supports 8x 2000W DC PSUs, DC power cables must be purchased separately.
There are two slots on the back of this particular family of enclosures for support of 2x Chassis Management Modules (CMM) that operate in a redundancy for data resilience. Each blade can also be outfitted with an optional IPMI add-on Card (AOC-SB410-001)

Featuring redundant 25Gb, 10Gb, or 1Gb ethernet switches, plus up to 200G and 100G Infiniband add-on-cards (AOC) or OCP 100G Intel Omni-Path architecture networking options, this platform is an excellent choice for high-performance computing (HPC) applications. Several other AOCs are available offering multiple ports. Up to 4x network modules are supported on this system but 200G Infiniband is not supported.
